Totino-Grace Opens the School Year with New President

Totino-Grace High School students, staff and special guests gathered for the opening school Mass on Friday, September 2. Bishop Piche’ of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and Father Douglas Pierce, School Chaplain, presided.

During the Mass, representatives from the Corporate Board, staff, alumni community, parent community and student body, along with Bishop Piche', installed and blessed Dr. William Hudson, Totino-Grace's sixth president.

Dr. William Hudson has served as the Vice President for Mission at Totino-Grace High School for the past seven years. In his present job, Bill oversees admissions, marketing, campus ministry, diversity, Board formation, athletics/activities, and technology. On July 1, 2011, Bill will succeed Br. Milton Barker FSC as President of Totino-Grace.

Prior to coming to Totino-Grace, Bill served as the Associate Executive Director of the Secondary Schools Department at the National Catholic Educational Association in Washington, D.C. In that capacity, he worked with the over 1,200 Catholic high schools in the United States in the areas of Catholic identity, leadership development, curriculum, and research into Catholic school effectiveness. Before serving at the NCEA, Bill was at Hill-Murray School as a teacher, campus minister, coach, club moderator, Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal. He also taught middle school religion at Trinity Catholic Elementary School on the east side of St. Paul.

Bill is an adjunct faculty member at the University of St. Thomas. He has presented across the country at conferences, dioceses, and schools. He has written for NCEA’s Momentum, two books for NCEA, Today’s Catholic Teacher, the Catholic Educational Journal, and St. Mary’s Press. He also serves on the Board of Directors at Holy Family Catholic High School in Victoria, DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis and Risen Christ School, also in Minneapolis. Currently, Bill serves on the Advancement Subcommittee of Archdiocesan Catholic Schools Commission.

Bill is a graduate of the Lasallian Leadership Institute and has been active in the Midwest District and Region. He is a member of the newly formed Regional Council of Lasallian Association for Mission, a national position overseeing the advancement of the Lasallian mission in the United Stated and Toronto. In addition, he is on the oversight committee for the Lasallian Branding initiative, a member of the LASSCA planning committee, and led the writing team for the Regional Assembly in Salt Lake City. His service to the Midwest District includes the District Mission Congress Implementation committee and the Board Formation Task Force.

Dr. Hudson holds a B.S. in Education from Central Michigan University, a Master of Divinity from the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, Texas, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN.

Bill has two children, Mateo (age 6) and Arecelia (age 5).
