ReplyKeith & Marina: Two questions for you—wondering if you could answer them for me.
(1) Can you talk about washing your car in freezing temperatures? I know we want to wash the salt mixtures off our cars, but what about freezing locks, windows, etc? At what temperature do you turn off your car washes?
(2) Can you give some advice on tire tread, tire pressures, etc. in the colder, snowier months?

ReplyGreat to see you up on the site Marina & Keith!
Keep in mind I'm the guy whose high school friends once suggested I need to change my "blinker fluid"—and I *almost* believed them. (I was young). But there's still a lot about cars I don't know.
Can't wait to learn more!

ReplyThis was an amazing turnout at an event like this to raise money and awareness for a new Down Syndrome Awareness Center that is coming to St. Louis Park.
Amy Jackson, who helped coordinate the event, did a remarkable job bringing so many people and vendors together to raise money for this cause.
Please share your thoughts here why a center like GiGi's Playhouse is important to the Twin Cities.

ReplyHi Abby!
Question for you (or anyone else out there who may know the answer):
There are a lot of videos out there on YouTube that claim to teach you how to frost a cupcake well, but I don't want to sit and watch every one to find a good one. (You never know what you'll get with a click on YouTube :)
Are there any you've seen (or made yourself?) that you recommend?

ReplyHi @Tom—re: covering this story because of the home value loss:
I actually thought this was worthy of coverage not because of the incidental value of this particular house or neighborhood, but because an estimated 60 firefighters from 10 neighboring departments all responded. That is remarkably significant—not to mention there was some pretty darn dramatic video footage of the fire.
But you're absolutely right, though, to note that EVERY house fire has major, significant impact on any number of people for the rest of their lives. We can, should, and will acknowledge that as often as we can.
We obviously can't be at every house fire, but will always do our best to cover as much for the community as we can.

ReplyHi Mike: I was able to update this story here tonight with more details on the property as well as additional information from the River Falls Fire Department. I've included a copy of their press release to the media as well.
If anyone in the neighborhood has additional photos or details to share, please let us know.

Chuck!
It's *so great* to see you here—and these are all great places! Look forward to seeing you again on the bike this summer!!
Here are my tips:
++ Iowa City has always had a special place in my heart, of course—and I'm a big fan of the Hotel Vetro. Very chic place. I don't know if it's worth $150/night and up, but it's very mod. Have dinner at Joseph's and settle in for the night.
++ I have BIG love for Decorah as well. Maybe it's my Norwegian heritage, but that place is just a treasure. Great biking and camping up in that area as well.
++ And then, of course, don't forget Anamosa. Whether you're staring at the giant gothic walls of the prison (from the outside, I hope), or overlooking the rolling fields from atop the Shaw House lookout (which used to be a B&B; not sure now), you will appropriately feel like you are standing inside a Grant Wood painting. And be sure to pay your respects—he's buried at the edge of town near the beautiful Wapsipinicon River there!
