Exhibit from Minnesota Historical Society with special Fridley material closes March 9, 2013.
Saturday, March 9, 2013, 11 a.m.–3 p.m. is your last chance to see the exhibit Minnesota on the Map at the Fridley History Center, 611 Mississippi St., Fridley. Robert Christenson, past president of the Fridley Historical Society, laid out the exhibit's appeal in an email this week: This coming Saturday, March 9, is the final day that the exhibit Minnesota on the Map will be available for viewing at the Fridley History Center. There are many maps of Minnesota to look at, and if you have lived in this state for any length of time, especially if you now live or formerly lived in Fridley, you will find very interesting information you may not have known. Here's a preview of what you'll find at the new exhibit from the Minnesota Historical Society.
Head to the Fridley History Center starting Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, to see historic maps of Minnesota and Fridley, as well as historic aerial photos of the city. The Minnesota on the Map exhibit, a collaboration with the Minnesota Historical Society and the Fridley Historical Society, features more than a dozen maps and a video station, along with several laminated maps. Anyone intrigued by the history and geography of Minnesota and Fridley will find something will find something of interest. For children there will be map and craft activities. The Minnesota Historical Society made an 1848 daguerrotype of Abram Fridley its 'Item of the Day.'
An 1848 photographic portrait of the man whose name the city of Fridley took as its own was the featured "Item of the Day" at the Minnesota Historical Society's website Tuesday. The daguerrotype image is 4-1/4" in height by 3-1/4" in width, plus a fancy decorative cover.

The Minnesota Legacy Fund project involves 15 interviews about the city's postwar development.
The Minnesota Historical Society announced a $5,114 grant to the Fridley Historical Society Tuesday for an oral history project about the city's postwar development. The project is one of 49 across the state—and the only one in Anoka County—to win funding in the latest round of Legacy Amendment funding awards. (The Anoka County Historical Society did not seek funding in this round, according to Executive Director Todd Mahon.)
