He served Fridley on HRA board, school board and historical society.
The life of a Fridley leader will be celebrated Thursday when friends and family of John "Jack" Meyer gather for his memorial service at St. Philip's Lutheran Church. The service is set for 10 a.m., with visitation beforehand and a reception afterwards. Burial is at Fort Snelling. Meyer, who died Jan. 2, 2013, at the age of 89, was a devoted volunteer in Fridley, serving nine years on the District 14 school board and three decades on the city's Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) board. First in a series: The Fridley School District.
Fridley residents in three school districts—Fridley (District 14), Spring Lake Park (District 16) and Anoka-Hennepin (District 11)—will be voting on school tax levies on Nov. 8. This is the first in a series on those levies and highlights information from the Fridley School District. On Nov. 8, 2011, residents in the Fridley School District will be asked to vote on two questions: Question One, if passed, would retain current staffing levels and maintain classroom programs and services. Question Two, if passed, would maintain current buildings and grounds, and maintain technology systems (hardware and software). Since each of these questions would renew a current levy, there will be no change in the school district portion of property taxes…

The "no child left behind" platform isn't working. The idea seemed good, but when you have to spend so much time teaching the children the information that is on the test, you often end up jamming that info. Some children do not learn that way. I worked in professional setting for training for adults from all over the world, and they - even as adults focused on just one area would have the same …   more ›
