Prosecutor: Walmart Video 'Key' to Accused Groper's Guilty Plea

Images from Walmart store video that Fridley police said showed a Columbia Heights man tracking girls then groping one as she stood next to her mother were "key to getting him to plead guilty," according to an Anoka County prosecutor. Last week Nathan William Charles Jones' case was scheduled to go to jury trial. Instead, he entered a plea of guilty to the crime with which he was charged: second-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony. "A jury would have looked at it and thought it was strange," said Assistant Anoka County Attorney Amy Reed-Hall in an interview two days after the hearing. Sentencing is set for March 27, 2013. Updated below. The man charged with groping a young girl at the Wal-Mart store in Fridley on Dec. 26 is out of jail. Nathan William Charles Jones, 29, of Columbia Heights, posted a $100,000 bail bond Tuesday night, according to the Anoka County Jail. He was arrested Friday and held over the holiday weekend. The terms of the $100,000 bail amount include a no-contact order, according to David A. Cossi, chief deputy county attorney. A larger bail amount option did not include the no-contact order, he said. The conditions included "no contact with the alleged victim, her family or any unsupervised contact with minors," according to KARE11, although Cossi said he couldn't confirm those details. Prosecutors Charge Columbia Heights Man with Groping Girl at Fridley Wal-Mart

The Columbia Heights man arrested Friday for allegedly groping a girl at the Fridley Wal-Mart store was charged Tuesday with one count of criminal sexual conduct, according to media reports. Anoka County Attorney's Office filed a single charge of second-degree criminal sexual conduct against Nathan Williams Charles Jones, 29, Tuesday, according to KARE 11: Bail for Jones was set Tuesday at $175,000 without conditions, and $100,000 with the condition that Jones have no contact with the alleged victim, her family or any unsupervised contact with minors.
