Public Hearing on Cremations at Miller Funeral Home at Fridley City Council

The hearing is at the council's regular Monday evening meeting. A zoning change would allow cremations in an existing accessory building at the funeral home.

Miller Funeral Home has asked the Fridley City Council to add a crematory as an accessory use in C-3 General Shopping zoning districts. The council will hold a public hearing on the proposed text amendement to city's zoning code at its regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012. According to a staff report (see second PDF thumbnail): The petitioner, Shannon Asmus, on behalf of the Miller Funeral Home, is seeking a text amendment to add language to the C‐ 3, General Shopping zoning district; that would allow a crematory as an accessory to the mortuary use at the subject property, which is located at 6210 Hwy 65. Hyde Park Neighborhood in Zoning Hot Seat

Road reconstruction, zoning changes and a transit-oriented redevelopment plan all affect the Fridley neighborhood.

Hyde Park, a Fridley neighborhood of slightly more than a dozen blocks, is in the spotlight recently—thanks to several separate city initiatives: rebuilding beat-up roads, rewriting zoning rules and creating a transit-oriented development district around the Northstar Commuter Rail station.  Community Development Director Scott Hickok said it's a coincidence of timing that zoning initatives and road projects affecting one neighborhood have come before city government in recent weeks. The zoning changes and development district are on the city council's Monday agenda for public hearings. The meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.
