WCCO-TV: Fridley Crash Victim Says SUV Driver Was Racing a Ferrari

'We were screaming, telling her like to stop,' one of the teenage passengers told WCCO-TV about the April 27, 2013 one-vehicle crash on University Avenue NE near I-694 that injured all seven aboard.

An SUV driver's attempt to race a Ferrari on University Avenue NE in Fridley on Saturday led to the one-vehicle rollover crash that seriously injured all seven aboard, one of the injured passengers told WCCO-TV. WCCO-TV reporter Reg Chapman interviewed the teenager: “There was this man in a Ferrari that was next to us, and then the lady that was driving the car that we was in, she started to try and race him,” Davis said. “We were screaming, telling her like to stop…and she got in front of him, and she started swerving left to right, left to right. that is just crazy because that litte 4 year old boy is my cousion and his 34 year old mom was drunk and she was the one who caused the injury to her own son man dang dats crazy if i was apart of that i would of caught him way before he flew out that window. :(   more ›

SUV Rollover in Fridley Leaves 7 Seriously Hurt

Only one was wearing a seatbelt. A 4 year old and four teens are among the injured. The driver had been drinking, according to MN State Patrol.

Incident occurred at 73rd and University avenues NE shortly after 10 a.m. Monday.

A snowplow and passenger vehicle collided at University and 73rd avenues NE in Fridley Monday shortly after 10 a.m. An ambulance was sent to the scene on a routine basis, Fridley Police Lt. Mike Monsrud said, indicating that injuries, if any, were very minor. He said he didn't know who, if anyone, was injured. The Minnesota State Patrol was headed to the crash site to write up the incident, Monsrud said, as is routine for crashes involving plows on state highways. 3 Developers Eyeing 'Gateway Northeast'

At Monday meeting, Fridley City Council will consider rezoning 10 HRA properties on University Ave. between 58th and 61st.

The long-anticipated redevelopment of properties along University Avenue NE could get closer Monday, when the Fridley City Council considers rezoning 10 properties as a redevelopment district. The City of Fridley Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) began buying commercial properties on the east side of University Avenue NE from 58th to 61st avenues NE in 2006.
