All three schools' teams will compete in both high kick and jazz at Target Center.
It's becoming a three-school, Fridley-area dance dynasty. Once again, dance teams from Fridley High School, Spring Lake Park High School and Totino-Grace High School kicked their way into the state dance tournament, held Feb. 15–16 at Target Center in Minneapolis. Totino-Grace took first in high kick and jazz at Saturday sectionals in North Branch, with Fridley in second in both categories, according to the teams' Facebook pages. Sasha McHale, a Totino-Grace High School graduate and daughter of famed basketball legend Kevin McHale, died Saturday at the age of 23 of medical complications related to lupus, according to media reports. A member of the Totino-Grace 2008 girls basketball Minnesota Class AAA championship team, McHale led the squad in blocked shots, according to the Star Tribune. She earned honorable mention on the all-state team that year, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, which quoted Totino-Grace Activities Director Mike Smith: "I just feel for those guys. ... Our thoughts and prayers are with them. This is something you never want to happen to anybody."

The Fridley area continues to be a powerhouse in high school dance competition, with three local schools again sending teams to the state tournament. That's after a Saturday of success in sectional competition that led Fridley, Spring Lake Park, and Totino-Grace high school to qualify in both jazz and high kick, according to two of the teams' big fans—Spring Lake Park Schools Superintendent Jeff Ronneberg and Fridley Fire Chief John Berg. The Totino-Grace High School cross country teams traveled to Blaine to compete in the Blaine Invitational Thursday afternoon. The invite had a total of 29 teams. The Eagles raced in the blue division boys raced against 14 teams and the girls against 16 teams. The Totino-Grace boys placed 6th and the girls 8th in the team competitions. There were 131 competitors in the boys race and 151 in the girls race. Mike Greenstein was the top finisher for the Eagles, placing 9th with a time of 16:54.8.
