A banged-up Spring Lake Park High School squad rallied in the second half to pull away from Fridley on Wednesday night for a 26-13 win over the Fridley High School Tigers. Tied 7-7 with the Tigers at halftime, the Panthers—who played without several starters and with more players banged up—were able to take the lead for good with a touchdown on their first possession of the second half. The Tigers answered with a touchdown of their own with 2:10 left in the third quarter, but their extra-point attempts was wide left and the Panthers held onto a slim 14-13 edge. Fridley High School was the scene for four basketball matchups with St. Paul's Highland Park Tuesday: varsity and JV, boys and girls. Like the other home squads, Fridley's varsity boys (0-4) lost to the Scots, although they led out of the gate. The final, 59-50, reflected a hard-fought contest in which Fridley showed improvement over their first home game, a 13-point loss to Minneapolis Southwest Dec. 2. But in the end the Tigers couldn't hold off Highland Park as Columbia Heights' boys did last week.
