What is your impression of the new retail outlet? Share your thoughts in a comment.

Fridley's new Salvation Army store—the first in the Midwest to sell only new merchandise—took in $78,000 on its opening day Saturday. That's according to a tweet Monday afternoon from the Salvation Army: Saturday shoppers stormed our new Fridley store that only sells new items. $78,000 raised for ppl in need. "It's a new look at an old idea," Jack Kinney, director of Operations for Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center told the Star Tribune: "We needed to change or cease to exist," Kinney said. New Fridley Salvation Army Store with Only New Merchandise Opens Saturday

Unique in Midwest, store takes place of former Brand Name Deals just north of Moore Lake and east of Hwy. 65. It joins Goodwill, which opened last month, in shaking up the Fridley retail scene.

Scholarship programs at Calvin Christian schools, including its high school in Fridley, benefit from sales at New To You Thriftique.

The 22 people who sort donations, price items and help customers each week at Golden Valley's New To You Thriftique don't get paid a dime. The volunteers are mothers, fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers to children who attend Calvin Christian Schools—a private chain of schools with a high school in Calvin Christian High School in Fridley and Kindergarten through eighth grade schools in Edina and Blaine. All of the shop's proceeds go toward a tuition scholarship fund at Calvin Christian Schools. Frugal Fridley Family: Take a Tour of 13 Area Thrift Stores

None are in Fridley itself but more than a dozen are nearby.

As the season for garage sales and yard sales comes to a close with the first few flakes of snow, where do hardcore thrifty people head? To the local thrift stores, of course! The city of Fridley itself is strangely lacking in these frugal family stores, so Fridley Patch went on a scavenger hunt to surrounding areas. There are 13 such stores close by on the east side of the Mississippi River. Before heading out, check out Hennepin County's Choose to Reuse and their Facebook page for their online coupon book that is good until Nov. 30. It includes a 15 percent off purchase coupon at the Eastside Thrift, a 25 percent off purchase coupon at The Salvation Army, a 25 percent off your purchase at Hidden Treasures, and a 50 percent off one item …
