Fridley's 'Jane Doe' Found Unfit for Trial: Star Tribune

She'll return to state hospital in hopes she becomes mentally competent to answer charges in court, the newspaper reported.

The woman who wants to be called Jane Doe but who authorities say is Tammy Anquinette Thomas is not mentally compentent to stand trial. That ruling became public at a court hearing Wednesday in Anoka, where the defendant returned to jail Monday after nearly two months at the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter, the Star Tribune reported.  Read the full Star Tribune article. Reasons for the determination of incompetency weren't clear but the woman will be ordered back to St. Peter under a civil commitment on Friday, the newspaper said. Fridley's 'Jane Doe' Declined to Cooperate With Psych Evaluation

She agreed at a Wednesday evening court hearing to cooperate in an evaluation scheduled for Monday.

Fridley’s close-lipped inmate, “Jane Doe,” made a brief appearance in Anoka County Court this afternoon for a hearing related to the question of whether she is psychiatrically competent to stand trial. At her first appearance in court, Jane Doe identified herself both as a 2-year-old child and the child’s mother. Anoka County authorities discovered her real name, Tammy Thomas, on July 27—but not before her refusal to cooperate with police won her the Anoka County Jail record for longest holding-cell stay. PHOTO: Fridley's 'Jane Doe' Finally Poses for Anoka County Mugshot

She now appears with photo and name 'Tammy Anquinette Thomas' at jail's online roster.

Jane Doe, the woman who wouldn't give authorities her real name or allow jailers to take her photo or fingerprints, has relented after more than three weeks.  "She did go through the booking process yesterday at about 12:30 p.m.," Fridley Police Lt. Mike Monsrud said Thursday. "She allowed them to take her photo and fingerprints, but that was about it." The Anoka County Jail online inmate roster for the first time shows her in a pair of booking photos. Her listed name changed from Jane Doe to Tammy Antoinette Thomas last week after police were able to use fingerprints from drinking glasses in jail to trace her to arrest records in DuPage County, IL, just west of Chicago.
