Fridley's Colter Allen Named to StarTribune's Athletes of the Week

The FHS junior was featured in the newspaper's list of seven high school athletes.

Fridley High School junion Colter Allen is featured in the Star Tribune's Athletes of the Week column Tuesday. Allen was named swimmer of the year by coaches in Section 4, Class 1A, the Star Tribune reported. He won the 100 butterfly and the 200 freestyle races. But Allen has his sights set on the boys swim and dive state tournament, which starts Thursday. "The real goal is to win state," he told the newspaper. Allen also gave props to teammate Alex Ambuhl, who won the 50 and 100 freestyles. They swam together on the FHS teams that won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Totino-Grace High School beat Bemidji 23-0 on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, to earn a berth in the Minnesota Class 5A football championship game. Totino-Grace Baseball Starts State Play after Upsetting Maple Grove

Eagles take on Forest Lake at Midway Stadium at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Totino-Grace High School baseball team fought their way into the Minnesota state high school tournament Wednesday by bumping off Maple Grove High School 6-5. That was the same score that ended the Crimson's season last year—a loss in the championship game to Burnsville High School. Now the Eagles enter the 2012 state tournament with a 5:30 p.m. game Thursday against Forest Lake High School. Update: Totino-Grace's boys lacrosse team takes on Edina Thursday in the state third place game at 6 p.m. in Chanhassen. Fridley, Spring Lake Park Swimmers Compete at Boys State Tournament

The Fridley team placed sixth—the highest showing in school history.

Fridley High School boys team came in sixth at the Minnesota Class A swimming and diving tournament over the weekend at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center—the school's highest showing. Swimmers from Spring Lake Park High School also competed (see below). Fridley High School For Fridley, five swimmers (four plus one alternate) and one diver participated. They set six new Fridley boys team records: Fridley's 400 yard freestyle relay record was last broken in 1985—it took27 years to improve the record time. Record was broken by 1.26 seconds. Here is a video clip from the state high school jazz dance competition at Target Center, where teams from Fridley High School, Spring Lake Park High School and Totino-Grace High School performed Friday afternoon. Here is an update from Target Center, where teams from Fridley High School, Spring Lake High School and Totino-Grace High School are performing Friday in the Minnesota jazz dance competition: Totino-Grace advanced to the finals of Class AA. They will perform last tonight in competition. The Class AA finals begin at 7:15 p.m. Fridley did not make the final six. Here's how the Spring Lake Park  high-kick dance team took second at sectionals at Chisago Lakes en route to the state competition at Target Center this weekend. Spring Lake Park's jazz dance team, along with high kick and jazz dance teams from from Fridley and Totino-Grace high schools, will also be at state. It's the second year in a row that all three schools have sent dance teams to the state tournament.

It's Another Three-fer Year for Fridley-area HIgh School Dance Teams

Fridley, Spring Lake Park and Totino-Grace head to state tournament.

The Fridley area continues to be a powerhouse in high school dance competition, with three local schools again sending teams to the state tournament. That's after a Saturday of success in sectional competition that led Fridley, Spring Lake Park, and Totino-Grace high school to qualify in both jazz and high kick, according to two of the teams' big fans—Spring Lake Park Schools Superintendent Jeff Ronneberg and Fridley Fire Chief John Berg. Fridley Heights Soccer Team Headed to State

They beat Hopkins and head to Coon Rapids for the state tournament Sunday.

The U16 Fridley Heights Lightning boys soccer team won a berth at the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association State Tournament by beating the Hopkins Dynamo Soccer Club 6-4 in a regional playoff game in St. Louis Park Thursday.  Throughout the first half, the Lightning played a complete game on both offense and defense. Nick Rathke opened the scoring with a goal in the first 10 minutes. Noah Wiggins and Erick Badilla added to the lead with a goal each. Goalie Hector Leon ensured a first half shutout, bolstered by outstanding defensive play. Focused yet aggressive passing and teamwork paid off with a 3-0 halftime lead for the Lightning.
