3 Months in Jail for Fridley Mom Who Shamed Girl with Diaper, Shaved Head

The 12-year-old had received an 'F' at school. The judge called the public 'diaper duty' punishment an "assault on her dignity," the Star Tribune said.

A Fridley mother went directly to jail Wednesday after an Anoka County District Court judge sentenced her to three months for publicly humiliating her 12-year-old daughter last May, according to the Star Tribune. She will be on supervised probation for two years and will have to follow a child plan ordered by the court, the newspaper reported.  The full sentence was one year in jail, but the judge stayed nine months of that sentence providing she complies with the terms of probation, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. The mother, 38, pled guilty to malicious punishment of a child last month, as did her boyfriend, who will be sentenced next week, the Star Tribune said. 'Diaper Duty' Charges: They Shaved Girl's Hair, Put Her in Diaper, Made Her Run in Public

Prosecutors say Fridley couple humiliated girl, 12, over schoolwork.

Anoka County prosecutors have filed charges against a Fridley couple who they say punished a 12-year-old girl by shaving her hair and making her wear a diaper and little else in public. The incident drew a crowd of 50 people in the 1600 block of 68th Avenue NE and lasted 30 minutes Monday evening, Fridley police said. It's the third time it's happened, according to the criminal complaint filed Wednesday morning. Stephanie Ann Broten, 38, and Darnell Alan Landrum, 35, each faces one count of malicious punishment of a child and remain in the Anoka County jail. Couple Made Girl Run in Public with Diaper, Police Say

Fridley police: Mother and boyfriend also shaved girl's head.

A mother and her boyfriend shaved her daughter's hair, put a diaper on her  and made her down the street as punishment for bad grades at school Monday—all before a crowd of about 50 people, according to Fridley police and the St. Paul Pioneer Press.* The woman and man remain in Anoka County Jail Tuesday after police arrested them at the Rice Creek Townhomes in the 1600 block of 68th Avenue NE on suspicion of malicious punishment of a child.
