Eddie worked at Bob's Produce Ranch in Fridley until the age of 98.
Friends gathered at the Pickle Park nightclub in Fridley one afternoon last week to celebrate a former coworker's 100th birthday. And it's only been two years since Eddie worked with them at Bob's Produce Ranch down the road. Is the key to his longevity eating yogurt? "I haven't had a yogurt [in a while]," Eddie said, gesturing to the drinks on the table in front of him. "Beer and brandy." Working at Bob's for many years after a first career laying cement may be part of his secret. Eddie started working there in April 1978 and was still working almost 30 hours per week when declining eyesight forced him to quit in November 2000, according to Bob's co-owner Mike Schroer. Eddie did different things at Bob's, Schroer said—first maintenance …

The jam session has outgrown its namesake home in Coon Rapids.

The Culver's Jammers are moving to Fridley's Pickle Park music bar and changing their name to Pickle Pickers, according to ABC Newspapers. The reason for the change: The Culver's restaurant in Coon Rapids can no longer contain the more than 20 bluegrass musicians and 80 onlookers who come for the weekly Saturday jam session, the report said. The Pickle Pickers' debut jam will be March 10. The Pickle Pickers join another regular musical shindig with a Fridley connection: The annual Concertina BowlArt Ohotto. The Star Tribune called the squeezebox polka-fest "the 'Super Bowl' for concertinas" in a recent article.

It's the song—as done by Bruce Springsteen—that got him started in music.

G.B. Leighton was at his namesake Fridley nightclub Friday, performing the song that launched his musical career, according to the Pickle Park website: "When I was 10 years old I heard Bruce Springsteen sing 'Santa Clause Is Coming To Town.' At that moment I knew what I wanted to do with my life, sing. I've been singing in bands since I was 14 years old, making fun and new relationships with bars, the people that run them and the people that hang out in them. Being in a band is all about taking care of your fans. They are the ones that pay the cover charge, buy the albums, and wear the T-shirts. Opening Pickle Park was just another way to cater to my fans. I wanted to give them a place to hang out and feel like part of the family-The …

A friend had reported the 21-year-old missing at the Pickle Park nightclub.
A woman who went missing from the Pickle Park nightclub early Friday morning turned up later at Unity Hospital. The woman's boyfriend brought her to the hospital from his residence in Fridley, according to Fridley Police Lt. Mike Monsrud. Police had received no report of any crime in relation to the incident, as of 3 p.m. Friday, Monsrud said. Fridley Police got a call about the missing woman at 1:25 a.m. Friday and tried to locate her throughout the night. At 8:30 a.m., police got word that she was at Unity Hospital. A police detective visited her there but has not filed a report, so the case remains open, Monsrud said, and police do not have information about her condition. According to Monsrud, the woman's female friend told police …
