Adams, North Park Teachers Are Up for MN Teacher of the Year

Two Fridley-area elementary school teachers are candidates for 2013 Minnesota Teacher of the Year, the teachers union Education Minnesota announced Thursday: Education Minnesota nominated 135 teachers from across the state for 2013 Teacher of the year, the organization said in a press release. A 25-member panel of community leaders will name semifinalists and finalists in coming weeks, with the Teacher of the Year announced at a ceremony May 5 in Brooklyn Park.

Kids, parents and buses arrived Tuesday for the first day at schools in the Spring Lake Park and Columbia Heights school districts. Fridley Public Schools start Wednesday.

Classes started Tuesday at many Fridley-area schools, including Columbia Heights High School in Columbia Heights, North Park Elementary School in Fridley and Learning Alternatives Community School in Spring Lake Park. Fridley Public Schools start on Wednesday.
