Frugal Fridley Family: Take a Tour of 13 Area Thrift Stores

None are in Fridley itself but more than a dozen are nearby.

As the season for garage sales and yard sales comes to a close with the first few flakes of snow, where do hardcore thrifty people head? To the local thrift stores, of course! The city of Fridley itself is strangely lacking in these frugal family stores, so Fridley Patch went on a scavenger hunt to surrounding areas. There are 13 such stores close by on the east side of the Mississippi River. Before heading out, check out Hennepin County's Choose to Reuse and their Facebook page for their online coupon book that is good until Nov. 30. UPDATED: 2 Confess to Passing Fake $20 Bills, Police Say

Three reports of counterfeit bills in one day.

UPDATED (see below): Fridley Police received three reports of people presenting or passing counterfeit bills on Saturday, according to Don Abbott, the city's director of public safety. Police have not made any arrests, Abbott said by email Friday afternoon. But he added that his department and New Brighton police "are following leads and we could categorize the investigation as active." KSTP-TV reported Monday that garage sale customers tried to use fake $20 bills in Fridley and New Brighton over the weekend. Attempts to pass counterfeit money are a regular feature in Fridley police reports, with targets ranging from major retail stores to barber shops. UPDATE (12:45 p.m. Tuesday): Fridley Police Lt.
