I-94 Reconstruction Could Mean Delays for Twin Cities Cabin Commuters

A 2013 resurfacing project on I-94 from Clearwater to St. Cloud could bring potential backup of up to 20 miles or more during peak travel times, according to MnDOT.

Among the projects is a resurfacing 7.5 miles of Interstate 94 north of the Twin Cities from Clearwater to St. Cloud.  The Minnesota Department of Transportation estimates the project could impact a backup of traffic of “20 miles or more during peak travel periods.” With residents in the northwest metro getting ready to make travel plans for spring and summer, MnDOT is urging drivers to consider an alternate route during the Clearwater to St. Cloud I-94 reconstruction project. “Find the best route that works for you based on where you’re leaving from and when and your destination,” said J.P. …

MnDOT is notorious for providing inaccurate, outdated information. Their project websites seem to rarely be updated and the road signage warning of lane closures is often inaccurate--seemingly forgotten to have been picked up after the work was done. Get with the times, MnDOT! There is no reason that the project websites shouldn't be updated on a daily/weekly basis (or as needed). It's a simple, …   more ›

Traffic Delays Start Monday on Central Ave./Hwy. 65 between 40th and I-694

Lane closures in Fridley and Columbia Heights won't be during rush hours, MnDOT said.

"Minor delays" are in store for drivers in both directions on Central Avenue NE/Highway 65 between 40th Avenue NE and I-694. Even pedestrians will be affected as work that begins Monday temporarily closes sections of the road, the shoulder of the road and sidewalks. That's according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, which says the project—"installing new fiber optic cable, cameras, and traffic signal controller cabinets along the corridor for improved signal timing and overall traffic management"—begins Monday and will last through early December. The agency recommends that drivers seeking real-time travel information visit the website 511mn.org or dial 5-1-1.
