Minnesota legislators are debating a new sales tax on licensed clothing, sports memorabilia and luxury suites to cover the state's share of Vikings stadium construction costs.

Matt Birk or Randy Moss? Facebook Map Shows NFL Fan Allegiances in Minnesota

Leading up to the Super Bowl, the 49ers and Ravens have Minnesota pro football fans split on the victor. Two former Vikings standouts, one on each squad, also complicate things.

Even if the Vikings haven't been able to reach the Super Bowl in more than three decades, Minnesota fans have an interest in this year's big game.  Former All-Pro wide receiver Randy Moss, who the Vikings drafted in 1998, is lacing up for the San Francisco 49ers Sunday.  Meanwhile, Matt Birk, a Minnesota native and longtime Viking offensive lineman, has his first (and probably only) shot at a ring since coming into the league.  A new map created by Facebook's Data Science team shows the 49ers fanbase stretches from the California coast well into the Midwest. But, in Minnesota, there are pockets of Ravens fans begin to crop up. The analysis of 35 million Facebook users who have "liked" a National Football League team fan page paints a …

(UPDATED) Laine: Vikings Seat-License Plan 'Rubs Salt in Wound' of Bad Stadium Deal

Gov. Dayton said seat licenses would make 'People's Stadium' into 'Rich People's Stadium.' Do you agree?

Updated below. Gov. Mark Dayton lashed out against the idea of the Minnesota Vikings selling seat licenses at the new stadium in a letter to team owners. Do you "deplore" the idea like the governor does, and would you pay for a seat license? In his letter to Zygi and Mark Wilf (see PDF), Dayton wrote: Now comes word that the team is considering requiring season ticket-holders to pay part of the "NFL Team/Private Contribution" for construction costs. I strongly oppose shifting any part of the team's responsibility for those costs onto Minnesota Vikings fans. This Private Contribution is your responsibility, not theirs. I said this new stadium would be a "People's Stadium," not a "Rich People's Stadium." I meant it then, and I mean it now. …

The Minnesota Vikings punter said he has invited at least 10 prominent Republicans to take part in a debate at 5 p.m. Friday, but none has taken him up on the offer.

He is set to take part in a debate at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at the Brave New Workshop in downtown Minneapolis. Twin Cities radio personality Tom Barnard has signed on to act as moderator for the debate. Among those Kluwe claimed on Twitter to have invited and gotten a no: U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), whose district borders Fridley.  On Thursday afternoon, Kluwe took to Twitter to provide an update …
