Fridley 49er Days to Move to Medtronic Rice Creek Campus in 2013

Medtronic, Inc.—a Fortune 500 company, the world's largest medical technology company and Fridley's biggest business—is becoming a partner in Fridley's biggest community festival, 49er Days. That's according to an announcement on the festival's Facebook page Tuesday afternoon: Are you ready for the location of 2013 Fridley 49er Days?! It will be held at the Medtronic Rice Creek campus (700 Central Ave NE)!!! This is really exciting to have Medtronic as one of our partners. What do you think? By the way, the street address in that posting contains a typo: It's 7000 Old Central Ave. NE in Fridley. (Someone was a little excited!) Medtronic Announces 3 Percent Third-Quarter Growth

Revenue was $4 billion in fiscal quarter ending Jan. 25, the Fridley-based med-tech giant said.

Medtronic made nearly half of its sales outside of the United States in the third-quarter ending Jan. 25 that saw revenue climb by 3 percent over figures from a year ago. That's according to the Fridley-based company's news release accompanying its earnings report for the quarter announced Tuesday. "Counting the impact of differences in foreign currency, company revenues grew 4 percent over the third quarter a year ago," the Star Tribune reported. The company is "still in the process of strengthening and geoghraphically diversifying," Medtronic CEO and Chairman Omar Ishrak said on a call announcing the earnings Tuesday. Medtronic's 2nd Quarter: Earnings Drop

But the Fridley-based medtech company said revenue was up.

Fridley-based Medtronic announced earnings Tuesday for its second quarter ending Oct. 26, 2012. Profits were down 26 percent, with expenses including legal costs hurting the earnings figure. In the company's statement, Medtronic chairman and chief executive officer Omar Ishrak said: Our second quarter performance reflects the results of our ongoing focus to deliver consistent and dependable growth in a changing healthcare environment. Our growth was broad-based across several businesses and geographies, driven by continued stabilization of our end markets and the ongoing successful execution of new product launches.

Senate Investigation Slams Medtronic on Infuse

Fridley-based Fortune 500 firm 'vigorously disagrees' with parts of the Finance Committee report.

A new U.S. Senate report says employees of Fridley-based Medtronic, Inc. secretly helped write articles in medical journals touting the company's InFuse spinal-surgery product and downplaying the product's downsides. The report, following a 16-month investigation by the Senate Finance Committee into how Medtronic marketed InFuse, also says the company paid $210 million over 15 years to physicians who authored favorable studies about the product. Medtronic disputed Senate investigators' claims in a statement: Medtronic does not agree with many of the findings in the staff report. Medtronic Produces Innovative Device and $4 Billion in Quarterly Revenue

Medtronic, Inc., with headquarters in Fridley, said Monday that a clinical study showed that a device used to reduce the size of patients' enlarged hearts could reduce death and hospitaliation rates, the Star Tribune reported. The cardiac resynchronization therapy process could be a radical innovation for Medtronic, providing a more permanent treatment than current products on the market. The Star Tribune has more: For Medtronic, CRT represents a new generation of technology that focuses on correcting the more underlying problems of heart failure rather than simply managing the disease. Medtronic's India Ties include Mumbai Mentors for MN Students

The Fridley-based firm has eyes on India for business. Now the company's helping hands there extend back to the United States, the Star Tribune reported.

E-mail is the mode of mentoring for Medtronic volunteers in Mumbai, India, who are helping high school students in Buffalo, MN according to the Star Tribune. It's a country the Fridley-based company has had its eyes on at least since Bangladesh-born CEO Omar Ishrak took the helm about a year ago. In June, MedCity News reported Medtronic was making moves to buy India's Trivitron Healthcare. Medtronic has local mentoring programs as well, with volunteers from its Fridley campuses helping students at Fridley High School and the Fridley Life Skills Transition Program—sometimes, despite the proximity, via email.
