Hill-Murray Football Coach Mauer Quits

Fridley Police cited him Feb. 19 on soliciting-prostitution charge, one of 23 arrests in two-day police detail at LivInn Hotel.

Mark Mauer has resigned as head varsity football coach at Hill-Murray School, according to media reports Monday afternoon. Mauer was one of 19 men arrested Feb. 19 and charged with soliciting prostitution in an undercover police operation at the LivInn Hotel in Fridley. His resignation is effective immediately, according to KSTP-TV. Fridley Patch reported Friday that the defendants included Mauer, in his first year as coach at Hill-Murray. He had previously coached for several schools at the college level, played quarterback for the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers, and served briefly as a St. Paul City Council member. Mauer also worked as a major-gifts officer at Hill-Murray, the Star Tribune reported.

Fire and Rain: Room Heater Malfunction Causes Alarm at LivInn Suites in Fridley

Guests were outside in the drizzle while firefighters cleared smoke inside from 'pretty minor' fire.

Hotel guests and residents of LivInn Suites stood out in the rain Friday evening after a heater caught fire in a guest rooms at about 5 p.m., causing heavy smoke to pour into the building. Fire trucks, police cars and ambulances surrounded the building as firefighters worked to ventilate the building with fans. The Minnesota State Patrol was also on scene. "It's pretty minor," said Fridley Fire Chief John Berg at the scene. "Just a lot of smoke." Berg said the fire crew was not yet sure if the fire was caused by electrical or mechanical malfunctions. LivInn is a hotel and also houses residents with long-term contracts. Resident Leslie Battle said police got to the building almost immediately after alarms went off; fire trucks arrived later…

LivInn thoroughly renovated the hotel last year as I understand it. I'm not sure if that included room heaters or not but from what i learned at their ribbon cutting for the renovations last fall, most of the hotel's furnishings and features were replaced.   more ›

Ribbons Get Cut When Fridley Businesses Remodel

Last month, LivInn Suites had the honor from the Metro North Chamber of Commerce. Friday, it's Sam's Club's turn.

When Fridley businesses make big improvements, it's a reason to celebrate. Last month the Metro North Chamber of Commerce brought the party to LivInn Suites, where major renovations turned the pool area into a garden court suitable for event rentals, and other improvements touched every room. (See photos from that event.) The Metro North Chamber is throwing another ribbon-cutting event Friday at Sam's Club: A short program will begin at 9 a.m., including a demonstration from the VFW Colorguard, the singing of our National Anthem and a performance by Mrs. Minnesota.  The ribbon cutting will immediately follow that short program.
