Event at nature center recognized Lund for winning the League of Minnesota Cities' C.C. Ludwig Award.
Fridley Mayor Scott Lund missed his first chance at public recognition for winning a statewide award in July, when historic floods swamped the Duluth area, where the League of Minnesota Cities was holding its annual meeting. Friends, colleagues and supporters gathered instead in considerably drier drought conditions last week at the Springbrook Nature Center in Fridley to recognize Lund for receiving the LMC's C.C. Ludwig award for mayors of cities of more than 10,000 residents. Among those in attendance on Sept. 11, 2012 were Dr. Bill Burns, Fridley city manager; Anoka County Commissioner Jim Kordiak; Anoka County Attorney Tony Palumbo; and members of the Springbrook Nature Center Foundation, Fridley Lions, the Lee Carlson Center and …

Sept. 11 Event at Springbrook Nature Center will recognize Scott Lund receiving the annual C.C. Ludwig Award from the League of Minnesota Cities.
Historic July flooding in northeastern Minnesota prevented Fridley Mayor Scott Lund from accepting a big award at the League of Minnesota Cities' annual conference in Duluth, but a local event will try to make up for that. The forecast is much more favorable for Fridley. The city's Springbrook Nature Center is the place for a celebration of Mayor Lund winning the League's 2012 C.C. Ludwig Award. The event is Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, 5–7 p.m., with a program at 6 p.m. The award, for "vision, statesmanship, and unwavering commitment to the public good," goes to only two mayors each year. Three judges selected Lund from all the mayors of Minnesota cities with 10,000 or more residents. (The other mayor honored, for cities of fewer than 10,000 …

League of Minnesota Cities awards Lund annual honor for bigger cities' mayors.
The League of Minnesota Cities has awarded Fridley Mayor Scott Lund its 2012 C.C. Ludwig Award for outstanding service. A panel of judges chose Lund for the honor from among all Minnesota mayors of cities of more than 10,000 residents. The award recognizes "vision, statesmanship, and unwavering commitment to the public good." Lund had intended to attend the League's annual meeting in Duluth in June but historic floods there prompted him to cancel his travel plans. Lund is running unopposed for re-election this fall. Here is what the League of Minnesota Cities website said about Lund: Mayor Scott Lund Lund, who received the C.C. Ludwig Award for elected officials from cities with populations of 10,000 or more, was cited for working with …

Technology in squad cars is contributing to a growing number of police-involved crashes on Minnesota roads.
Technology inside police squad cars contributes to auto crashes that involve police, according to students at St. Mary's University of Minnesota (SMU). Their study (see PDF) covered 378 police-involved crashes in Minnesota from 2006-2010. In those incidents, distracted driving by police accounted for 14 percent of claims and 17 percent of costs—or $1,188,66. Measured separately, technology inside squad cars played a role in 12 percent of claims and accounted for 24 percent of costs. Laptops and Other Distractions Potential distracting technology includes laptop computers, police radios, police cell phones, and squad cameras, according to Lt. Mike Monsrud of the Fridley Police Department. But gadgets are not the only potential source of …

So instead of a ceremony to remember 9/11 the City will feed the Mayor's ego by holding an atta boy. Wish I knew what the actual criteria was. Pretty sure first and foremost was that he was running unopposed. In an election year, IMO, it wouldn't look good if "The League" were endorsing candidates. As far as the 2007 campaign to remove restrictions from utilities, in the Charter, his "victory" …   more ›
