DeLaSalle Defeats Spring Lake Park in Section 3AAA Boys Basketball Final

Panthers lose to Islanders 62-52 at Blaine High.

The season came to an abrupt end for the boys basketball team at Spring Lake Park High School Friday night when the DeLaSalle Islanders defeated the Panthers 62-52 in the Section 3AAA final.

Fridley Volleyball Season Ends at Section Final

Lady Tigers fell to Maple Lake 3-1.

Fridley High School Lady Tigers fell a few points short of extending their season to the state tournament Saturday night with a loss to Maple Lake in the Section 5AA final at Rockford High School. In what one fan called a "very exciting match," the Lady Tigers won and lost what ended up being the last two games of their 2011 season by scores of 25-23. Earlier in the week, Fridley beat Becker and Zimmerman at home to reach the section final. The Lady Tigers wowed their opponents, leading the Zimmerman coach to declare after Thursday's game, "This is their year."

Q&A: Totino-Grace Athlete Andy Moritko Attracts College Looks

The wide receiver/defensive back wants success for his team in the playoffs and a college scholarship for himself.

Andy Moritko, a 6-foot-4-inch, 210-pound, two-way football player for Totino-Grace High School, will help lead the Eagles against Mounds View Friday evening in the Section 2AAAAA finals. Moritko is a three-sport athlete who is drawing recruiting looks for his football exploits. Moritko has caught 22 passes for 308 yards and has seven touchdowns this season, helping the Eagles build their current 9-1 record. The team has been dominant since losing their opener 28-0 to Minnetonka, outscoring their opponents 345-97. Totino-Grace, which has won six of the last eight Class 4A titles, moved up in classifaction this year. They finished 12-1 and won the state title last season with a 34-14 victory over Rogers. Fridley High School's volleyball team reached the Minnesota 5AA semifinal match by defeating Becker 3-0 in the quarterfinals Tuesday night on their home court. The Tigers take on the winner of the Park Center-Zimmerman game on Thursday night at Fridley High.

Totino-Grace Rolls Past White Bear Lake into Football Section Semifinals

The Eagles face Mounds View Friday with a trip to state on the line.

The Totino-Grace High School football team extended its winning streak to nine games on Saturday with a 28-0 win over White Bear Lake in the Section 2AAAAA semifinals. The Eagles, in their first season as a Class 5A team, have a chance to reach the state tournament in their new class on Friday at home against Mounds View. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Totino-Grace opened up the season with a stunning 28-0 loss to Minnetonka at home, but since that night in early September the Eagles have been unbeatable. T-G (9-1) has outscored North St. Paul and White Bear Lake by a combined 58-7 in two playoff games this season. Four different T-G players scored touchdowns on Saturday, all rushing touchdowns.
