LAST CHANCE: See 'MN on the Map' at Fridley History Center on Saturday

Saturday, March 9, 2013, 11 a.m.–3 p.m. is your last chance to see the exhibit Minnesota on the Map at the Fridley History Center, 611 Mississippi St., Fridley. Robert Christenson, past president of the Fridley Historical Society, laid out the exhibit's appeal in an email this week: This coming Saturday, March 9, is the final day that the exhibit Minnesota on the Map will be available for viewing at the Fridley History Center. There are many maps of Minnesota to look at, and if you have lived in this state for any length of time, especially if you now live or formerly lived in Fridley, you will find very interesting information you may not have known. 'Minnesota on the Map' Opens Saturday at Fridley History Center

Here's a preview of what you'll find at the new exhibit from the Minnesota Historical Society.

Head to the Fridley History Center starting Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, to see historic maps of Minnesota and Fridley, as well as historic aerial photos of the city. The Minnesota on the Map exhibit, a collaboration with the Minnesota Historical Society and the Fridley Historical Society, features more than a dozen maps and a video station, along with several laminated maps. Anyone intrigued by the history and geography of Minnesota and Fridley will find something will find something of interest. For children there will be map and craft activities. And for anyone who is thirsty, coffee and juice will be served. Minnesota on the Map will be open each Saturday, 11 a.m.–3 p.m., from Jan. 19–March 9, 2013, at the Fridley History Center, 611 …

Funeral for John "Jack" Meyer Set for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Philip's

He served Fridley on HRA board, school board and historical society.

The life of a Fridley leader will be celebrated Thursday when friends and family of John "Jack" Meyer gather for his memorial service at St. Philip's Lutheran Church. The service is set for 10 a.m., with visitation beforehand and a reception afterwards. Burial is at Fort Snelling. Meyer, who died Jan. 2, 2013, at the age of 89, was a devoted volunteer in Fridley, serving nine years on the District 14 school board and three decades on the city's Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) board. He was also "a very loyal member of the Fridley Historical Society since it came into existence, and always available to help the Society in any way he could," according to the organization's past president, Robert Christenson. MORE PHOTOS: 'Christmas in the 1970s' Exhibit

The Fridley History Center's new show has proved a hit, with more than 300 visitors so far.

Christmas in the 1970s is a new exhibit at the Fridley History Center, 611 Mississippi St. NE, Fridley, that will is open every Saturday through Dec. 15, 11 a.m.–3 p.m. It will also be open on Tuesday afternoons from 2–4 p.m. through Dec. 18. This is a free event—no admission charge. If you visit the exhibit on Tuesdays through Dec. 18, you will be served Russian tea and cookies. There are many articles from the '70s in the exhibit including a video of Bing Crosby and David Bowie performing a duet. Hope you can treat yourself and your family to this marvelous Christmas exhibit; it may bring back some great memories, or, for younger members, maybe a glimpse into the Christmas experience of your parents before you were born.
