'Crashed Ice' Qualifiers: Anyone You Know?

One Fridley resident competed in last year's Red Bull event. Do you see familiar names on the lists of 60 athletes now set to take part?

Only a few of the athletes who qualified Sunday for the 2013 Red Bull Crashed Ice competition in St. Paul Jan. 24–26 have hometowns listed on the official rosters. Last year, one Fridley resident competed but his name isn't on the lists posted on the Red Bull Crashed ice Qualifier—Saint Paul, MN Facebook Page. Do you know any of the 60 people listed to take part in the bumpy downhill skating races? Check the lists here and leave a comment below.

Do You Have What it Takes? Red Bull Crashed Ice St. Paul Qualifier is Sunday

Clint Massey of Fridley competed last year. To qualify for Red Bull Crashed Ice—Saint Paul, you must battle 1-on-1 in a downhill-skating time trial to earn a spot on Team USA.

Red Bull Crashed Ice is returning to St. Paul Jan. 24–26, 2013, but if you think you have what it takes to race down the most technical track in ice cross downhill history, you’ll want to be at the Xcel Center on Sunday. Athletes wishing to qualify for Red Bull Crashed Ice–Saint Paul—as Fridley's Clint Massey did last year—must battle one-on-one in a time trial for the opportunity to earn a spot on Team USA. The time trial is Sunday, Jan. 6 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The morning session begins at 9 a.m. The afternoon session starts at 3 p.m. RELATED: PHOTOS: Fridley's Clint Massey at 2012 Crashed Ice Red Bull Crashed Ice is expanding to five stops worldwide this year. PHOTOS: Fridley's Clint Massey at Crashed Ice

He was among the home-state competitors at the Red Bull-sponsored downhill skating competition in St. Paul

It's not for everyone, but the Crashed Ice downhill skating course drew at least one person from Fridley: Clint Massey. Massey featured in photos that appeared in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, at the Crashed Ice website, and at Stillwater Patch. He qualified Thursday, coming in 29th in the National Shootout (click here for a PDF with full list of results from Thursday’s national time trials). The St. Paul finals was broadcast live on Red Bull TV starting at 7 p.m. Saturday night. That competition will also air nationally on NBC on Saturday, Jan. 21, from 1 to 3 p.m.
