Two sets of parallel events are taking place this weekend in the worlds of local politics and high-school robotics. The DFL and Republican parties convene Saturday in the (new Senate District 41—which includes all of the city of Fridley) to follow up on last month's caucuses—endorsing candidates, acting on party-platform planks, and selecting delegates to their respective Fifth District congressional conventions. Meanwhile, teams from Spring Lake Park, Fridley and Columbia Heights high schools have been competing at two three-day regional FIRST Robotics tournaments at the University of Minnesota.
