The 5th District congressman says it erodes protections for American workers.
Fifth District Rep. Keith Ellison slammed the passage of a bill Wednesday that offers private-sector workers the choice of paid time off instead of overtime pay. Supporters say the Working Families Flexibility Act of 2013 is a family-friendly bill that would help parents spend time with their children, adult sons and daughters spend time caring for elderly parents and workers of all ages to pursue the activities they want to pursue. But Ellison countered that it removes vital protections for working families and hurts those struggling to get by during the recession. The Democratic congressman released the following statement with fellow Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairman Reps. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ): H.R. 1406, which eliminates …

‘Republicans have been trying to dismantle Social Security ever since President Roosevelt proposed it during the Great Depression. We should not try to bargain for their good will,’ his statement said.
Rep. Keith Ellison is criticizing reports that President Barack Obama’s budget will include a proposal to change the way inflation is calculated for federal benefits. The new formula is a so-called “chained consumer price index” that would grow Social Security benefits at a slower rate than they grow under the current formula. The 5th District congressman argues that it amounts to a cut in benefits. In a statement released Friday, Congressional Progressive Caucus co-chairmen Ellison and Reps. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) said: Republicans have been trying to dismantle Social Security ever since President Roosevelt proposed it during the Great Depression. We should not try to bargain for their good will with policies that hurt our seniors, …

The 5th District congressman shot down Bill O’Reilly’s claims that the Congressional Progressive Caucus wants to end capitalism.
Fifth District Rep. Keith Ellison went on MSNBC Wednesday to counter Fox talk show host Bill O’Reilly’s claims the night before that members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) are “far-left kooks.” O’Reilly criticized the proposals for decreased defense spending and increased spending on job creation, science, energy, the environment and education—adding “some conservatives claim that’s what the far-left wants: a collapse of the entire capitalist system.” On MSNBC’s Martin Bashir’s show, CPC co-chairman Ellison said the proposals enjoy widespread support and that he isn’t pushing for a collapse of capitalism. Watch the full interview in the video above. Iraq War Ellison also released the following statement on the 10th …

The Minnesota congressman opposes using preventive health money to keep student loan rates low.
Rep. Keith Ellison slammed House Republicans’ decision to use the preventive health fund to keep student loan costs from doubling. Stafford loan interest rates were scheduled to grow from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent. Both parties want to keep loans at the current rate. But Republicans want to pay for the $6 billion proposal through cuts, while Democrats want to pay for it with new revenue. In a Friday news release Ellison argued that one essential service shouldn’t be cut to fund another. The American people should never have to choose between their health and their education. Today House Republicans told women they can’t have preventive breast and cervical exams, and told children they can’t have regular check-ups or immunizations, if we …

U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison likened colleague Allen West's recent comments to McCarthyism.
After being categorized as "communist" last week alongside the rest of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison released a statement calling Florida Republican Allen West's comments "reminiscent of the days when Joe McCarthy divided Americans." Rep. West had been responding to a constituent question over what percentage of the American Legislature were "card-carrying Marxists," saying he believed as many as 80 Democrats "are members of the Communist Party." "It's called the Congressional Progressive Caucus," West said. A spokesperson for West talked with Politico following the Florida town hall, saying West "stands by his words." "The words the media needs to pay attention to are the words of the members of the …

Ellison has been a very divisive politician. He has no "unique perspective." He blindly follows the Democrat Party talking points, and is known in Washington as one of the least effective, and least intelligent, congressmen.   more ›
