Medtronic's Bakken was honored alumnus; Student speakers cited Dr. Seuss and Spiderman's uncle.
The weather—always a concern with outdoor graduations—held out as 171 students received diplomas at Columbia Heights High School's Hylander Field Thursday evening. Parents, friends and family members cheered and clapped as Principal Joann Karetov welcomed them to the ceremony—and they didn't stop until the new graduates threw their mortarboards in the air at the end. It was a "good, good night"—to quote the Black Eyed Peas.
Three-hundred-thirty-three young adults from Fridley, Spring Lake Park and Blaine, along with their parents, loved ones and friends awoke Friday morning with one thing on their mind—the weather. What was the forecast and where would Spring Lake Park High School graduation be that evening? Would it be outside on the football field or inside in the gym? While a few showers were forecast for the day, the weather held out and the bleachers at Panther Field were packed for a night filled with tradition, as Spring Lake Park’s senior class of 2012 received their diplomas. The school board and administration led the march onto the field accompanied by the Spring Lake Park band, led by directors Brian Lukkasson and Nora Tycast playing Pomp and …

Nine seniors earned their diplomas at a well-attended ceremony.
The Calvin Christian High School auditorium was the scene of laughter and tears, looking back and looking forward, as nine graduating seniors received their diplomas Friday evening, June 3, in the presence of several hundred friends and family. The CCHS band and choir performed, and graduating senior Alex Vo contributed a piano solo. They said the choice was most difficult, but this year they decided on Arlan Koppendrayer, student advisor and Bible and civics instructor. Koppendrayer spoke of the need not only for intelligence but …
