Fridley's Colter Allen Named to StarTribune's Athletes of the Week

The FHS junior was featured in the newspaper's list of seven high school athletes.

Fridley High School junion Colter Allen is featured in the Star Tribune's Athletes of the Week column Tuesday. Allen was named swimmer of the year by coaches in Section 4, Class 1A, the Star Tribune reported. He won the 100 butterfly and the 200 freestyle races. But Allen has his sights set on the boys swim and dive state tournament, which starts Thursday. "The real goal is to win state," he told the newspaper. Allen also gave props to teammate Alex Ambuhl, who won the 50 and 100 freestyles. They swam together on the FHS teams that won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Fridley Boys Swimmers, Divers Team 'Making Waves'

Star Tribune: Colter Allen and Alex Ambuhl lead a terrific Tigers team.

The Life of Pi movie isn't the only show in town starring wet Tigers. Try Fridley High School, says the Star Tribune: These are the golden years for the Fridley boys' swimming and diving team. The Tigers' sixth-place finish at the Class 1A state meet last season was a best-ever showing. Junior Colter Allen and senior Alex Ambuhl hold a combined five school records and are within reach of five more. And 43 boys make up the largest roster coach Mark Sielaff has directed since taking over the program in 2006. (Read the full Star Tribune article here.)
