A few Fridley favorites are coming and going today. It's the last Breakfast with Santa at the Shorewood, and the last Saturday hours for 'Christmas in the 1970s' at Fridley History Center. But it's the first day for regular hours at the new Fridley Goodwi
It's the last Saturday for a couple attractions and the first Saturday for another in Fridley. The popular Christmas in the 1970s exhibit at the Fridley History Center has its final Saturday hours from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012. It's free. Santa will have Breakfast with Santa, at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 15, 2012, at the Shorewood Bar and Grill. The new Goodwill retail store throws open its doors for a regular shopping day for the first time on Saturday. What are you doing this Saturday?

The Fridley History Center's new show has proved a hit, with more than 300 visitors so far.
Christmas in the 1970s is a new exhibit at the Fridley History Center, 611 Mississippi St. NE, Fridley, that will is open every Saturday through Dec. 15, 11 a.m.–3 p.m. It will also be open on Tuesday afternoons from 2–4 p.m. through Dec. 18. This is a free event—no admission charge. If you visit the exhibit on Tuesdays through Dec. 18, you will be served Russian tea and cookies. There are many articles from the '70s in the exhibit including a video of Bing Crosby and David Bowie performing a duet. Hope you can treat yourself and your family to this marvelous Christmas exhibit; it may bring back some great memories, or, for younger members, maybe a glimpse into the Christmas experience of your parents before you were born. That comment was for a planter another visitor recalled on seeing 'Christmas in the 1970s' at the Fridley History Center.
The Christmas in the 1970s show at the Fridley History Center got wider exposure in the Star Tribune's North Metro section Wednesday: Deb Youngsjostrom, a Fridley resident who was at the Fridley exhibit with her mom and sister on opening day, said of the '70s: "It doesn't seem like it was so many years ago." A wooden spinning wheel-shaped lamp in the living room reminded her of a planter she once had. "I haven't thought about that planter in years," she said, adding, "It was so ugly." Board games like Battleship, Sorry and Miss America also brought back memories. "I'm a huge fan of board games," she said. "I think I had all of these." New Fridley Historical Society exhibit opens Nov. 10.
The Fridley Historical Society has a treat in store for visitors in November and December when we present the exhibit, Christmas in the 1970s in the lower level of our museum. Yes, there will be plenty of harvest gold and avocado on display, as well as a caftan or two, a copy of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, several '70s Christmas ornaments, and many additional objects in our 70s vignette that are sure to jar your memories of the “Me Decade.” Details of the exhibit follow.
