Sheriff: Car Towed to Columbia Heights Had Body Inside

She was an 18-year-old from St. Paul, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office believes.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Friday investigators are working on the case of a body found Thursday in a car at an impound lot in the 3800 block of Central Ave. NE in Columbia Heights. The vehicle had been towed Feb. 13 from an apartment complex parking lot in Brooklyn Park, the statement said. See a WCCO-TV video report about the body found in a towed car in Columbia Heights. Fridley Fisherman Finds Body in Mississippi River under I-694

Police: 'It's been in water quite some time.'

A fisherman found a dead body floating in the Mississippi River under the I-694 bridge at about 3 p.m. Friday, according to Fridley Police Capt. Brian Weierke. A preliminary investigation is underway, Weierke said. Police aren't releasing any more information about the body. "It'w been in the water for quite some time" based on the degree of the body's decomposition, Weierke said. The Anoka County Medical Examiner and the Anoka County Crime Lab of the County Investigative Division (CID) were also on the scene, as well as the fire departments of Fridley and Coon Rapids. Updated: Authorities Identify Fridley Man Found Dead at Springbrook Nature Center

It was the first death at the city-owned and -operated nature center.

The man found dead Monday floating in the pond at Springbrook Nature Center was Myron Wesley Dobberstein, according to information that the Anoka County Sheriff's Office released Tuesday afternoon. Dobberstein lived around the corner from the park at Banfill Crossing Senior Adult Community, 8310 University Ave. NE. He had just turned 77 on April 7. A park visitor found Dobberstein's body at around 10:15 a.m. Monday, about 10 feet from a floating boardwalk trail in the west-central part of the park. Friends had last seen him alive at another location at about 9 a.m. Monday. There was no obvious sign of trauma or indication of foul play in his death. Updated: Body Found at Fridley's Springbrook Nature Center

No obvious sign of foul play in death of 77-year-old Fridley man who walked regularly in the park.

A park visitor at Springbrook Nature Center found the body of a 77-year-old Fridley man in the northwest part of the pond at about 10:15 a.m. Monday, according to the Anoka County Sheriff's office. (See updates below.) There was no obvious indication of trauma or foul play in the death of the man who Comm. Paul Sommer of the sheriff's office described tenatively as a white male who frequently visited the park. Friends last saw the man at another location at about 9 a.m. Monday. Fridley police responded to the scene then called the sheriff's office, whose dive team at about 1:30 p.m. recovered the body floating about 10 feet from a wooden trail built over the water, Sommer said. Thanks, jar. In the case of Adam James Zaccardi, his body was found last September "in the marshy drainage pond adjacent to the nature center," according to the Star Tribune. So I guess very close but not quite in the nature center. Still, I'll be adding something to this story about that. Thanks again for the comment.   more ›
