UPDATED: 17-Year-Old Fridley Armed Robber Tackled by Ex-lineman

The teenager was tackled by a 270-pound SuperAmerica customer in Rogers.

Updated (3:45 p.m. Wednesday): The Fridley teenager alleged to have robbed a Rogers SuperAmerica Tuesday evening with a handgun had bad luck in his getaway plan and found himself tackled by a 6-foot-3, 270-pound former Milaca High School and Central Lakes College defensive end named John Dyker. Dyker told the Star Tribune that he suspected the 17-year-old was "up to no good" from the moment the teen entered the gas station with a bandana covering his face. Dyker watched from outside the store as the teen robbed a female clerk, he said. He blocked a door with his van and told another bystander to call the police. When the teen left the store, Dyker was ready. "I did my best John Randle imitation and plowed him over," Dyker told the Star …

Charges: Armed-robbery Driver Says 'Joker' Made Him Do It

He claims gunman ordered him to help rob Osborne Rd. store, according to the criminal complaint.

The man charged with armed robbery of an Osborne Road store June 14 said he did it because his accomplice, who he knows only as "Joker," also threatened him with the gun. That's according to the criminal complaint Anoka County prosecutors filed against Steven Eugene Daniels, 45, of Minneapolis. Daniels faces two counts: Authorities arrested Daniels after stopping the car he was driving a second time in Fridley within minutes of the alleged holdup. (The car drove off after deputies pulled it over the first time on Highway 65, according to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office.) The other man got away—despite a massive manhunt with K-9 search teams and a State Patrol helicopter that lasted more than three hours and involved the State Patrol, …

Fridley Felon Federally Indicted For Armed Robbery of Convenience Store

Under the Hobbs Act, federal prosecutors, rather than state prosecutors, can prosecute those who commit armed robbery at a business involved with interstate commerce.

Jimmy Earl Matthews, 34, of Fridley, could face life in prison after his latest charge: armed robbery of the Totem Superette in Columbia Heights on March 11, 2011. Two months after the robbery, on May 11, 2011, Matthews was charged with one count of possession of a firearm during a violent crime, one count of interference with commerce by robbery, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
