Report: Fridley's 'Jane Doe' at Anoka Co. Jail Is Tammy Antoinette Thomas

How authorities found the 37-year-old's true identity is unclear, the Star Tribune said.

Fridley's famed "Jane Doe" now has a name: Tammy Antoinette Thomas. Anoka County authorities discovered her true identity on Friday, according to a Star Tribune report late Saturday afternoon—but it's not yet clear exactly how, the newspaper said. The woman—held at Anoka County jail since July 10, 2012, on trespassing and receiving stolen property—had given only false names and refused to cooperate with jailers' efforts to take her fingerprints or photograph her, as reported first at Fridley Patch on July 12. On July 13, authorities released a photograph of her with her eyes closed. Amended Complaint An amended criminal complaint (see original complaint here) had more specifics about what authorities allege, the Star Tribune reported. …

An earlier version of this story had some information about a woman by the same name who was arrested out of state and bears a strong resemblance to this inmate. On reflection, I decided to remove that part of the post pending some confirmation from law enforcement that it could be the same person.   more ›

UPDATED: Fridley Police Have Leads in 'Jane Doe' Case

Anoka County's mystery inmate can purge contempt of court conviction by giving her name.

Update (1:30 p.m. Monday): The leads on the "Jane Doe" case that Fridley police are following up on today came from members of the public not in Minnesota, Fridley Police Capt. Brian Weierke said Monday afternoon. Weierke said detectives have received "a couple of reports from people out of state." He said he believed the tipsters learned of the case from widespread media coverage, which began last Thursday morning when Fridley Patch first reported that a woman arrested in Fridley July 9 was refusing to give jailers her name. The story is "really out there" in the media, Weierke said. Based on what they believe to be the route "Jane Doe" traveled to reach Fridley, police have developed a theory that she may come from the area around …

Pioneer Press: Holding Cell is Home for 'Jane Doe'

Jail accommodations are spartan for the woman charged with squatting at Fridley house—where she hung drapes, a shower curtain and installed crown moulding.

Inmates like Fridley's "Jane Doe" who won't give jailers their names are a rarity—and they usually break their silence in eventually, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, citing the Anoka County Sheriff's Office. Conditions aren't especially comfy for people behind bars who refuse standard booking procedures such as identifying themselves and allowing a photographer to take an official mugshot, Cmdr. Paul Sommer told the newspaper: "She basically has a toilet and a sink and a place to lie down and that's it," Sommer said. [Fridley Police Lt. Mike] Monsrud said the circumstances of Jane Doe's arrest were unusual too. "She changed the locks, hung some blinds. She had gone in and installed some crown molding. Hung a shower curtains," …

Me too, Terry! There are some ironies here: According to police she made herself at home in a home that wasn't hers. And, they say, she had lots of other people's IDs but won't identify herself.   more ›

StarTribune: 'Jane Doe' Is Eating, Talking to Her Attorney

The mystery woman arrested Monday in Fridley won't say who she is or allow jailers to take her photo but she isn't saying no to everything, the Star Tribune reports.

See a photo of "Jane Doe" that Fridley police released Friday morning. The woman arrested Monday in Fridley who won't tell authorities her name is taking her meals and talking to her attorney while she sits in Anoka County Jail, the Star Tribune reported late Thursday: "I have to explore every possibility. This is a very unusual situation that I haven't come across in my career," said Jennifer Pradt, Doe's public defender, who asked for the competency exam. "She has been communicating with me." ... She was kept isolated from the other inmates because authorities wanted to keep an eye on her, but Sommer said there wasn't a concern she would hurt herself. She ate regular meals, but didn't try to contact anybody outside jail. When needs arose…

MAP: See the Route Police Think 'Jane Doe' Took from SE Wisconsin to Fridley

Stolen SUV and IDs suggest she traveled on I-90 and I-94 to reach the Twin Cities, they say.

This is the route that police say "Jane Doe" likely took from Lake Geneva, WI (site of a stolen SUV) to Fridley, MN (site of her arrest Monday). They say surveillance video shows her using other people's credit cards in the Wisconsin cities of Baraboo and Tomah—tracing a route along Interstates 90 and 94 that ends in the Twin Cites.  Fridley police have circulated to Chicago-area law enforcement a photo of "Jane Doe"—not a good one, Lt. Mike Monsrud said, but the best they could get. She hasn't allowed her Anoka County jailers to take a booking photo. See that photo of "Jane Doe," which Fridley police released Friday morning. UPDATED: Jailed 'Jane Doe' Was on Multi-state Crime Spree, Police Say

She's been in Anoka County Jail since Tuesday on suspicion of burglary in Fridley.

Update (noon Friday): See a photo of "Jane Doe" that Fridley police released this morning. Update (2:15 p.m. Thursday): The case of "Jane Doe" appears to be a multi-state crime spree involving theft of a motor vehicle and many people's IDs, according to a police account and court documents. You can now read the criminal complaint against "Jane Doe," the female inmate at Anoka County Jail who refuses to give her name. According to Lt. Mike Monsrud of the Fridley Police Department, "Jane Doe" is being held under a contempt-of-court order for 60 day for refusing to give her real name in court Wednesday before Judge Dyanna L. Street. Monsrud described evidence at the Fridley house where a police dog subdued her Monday night, including a Ford …

Fridley Woman Visits Dakota County Jail Inmate Via Video

Anoka County isn't among counties considering the system.

A Fridley woman uses a video system to virtually visit her fiancé in the Dakota County Jail, according to the Star Tribune. A system that is something like Skype lets Michelle Stroman place a video call from her computer at home in Fridley to Brad Kraemer, who is behind bars in Hastings, the newspaper reported.  "It's a lot more convenient" than driving 40 miles and back to Hastings, Stroman told the Star Tribune. Dakota County is the first in the state to use TurnKey Corrections' InmateCanteen.com, according to the report, but several others are considering it. Not Anoka County, though, for now. "We have no plans to implement this at any time in the forseeable future,"  Cmdr. Paul Sommer of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said by email …
