Please share your 9/11 memory or observation by leaving a comment below. President Obama's 9/11 remarks at the Pentagon: This anniversary allows us to renew our faith that even the darkest night gives way to a brighter dawn. Today, we can come here to the Pentagon, and touch these names and kneel beside a building where a single stone still bears the scars of that fire. We can visit the field of honor in Pennsylvania and remember the heroes who made it sacred. We can see water cascading into the footprints of the Twin Towers, and gaze up at a new tower rising …

Leave a comment below to join the folks who are sharing where they were on Sept. 11, 2001. Jill Ellenbecker tweeted this memory Sunday morning: #onSept11 I was at Georgetown Apts. in #Fridley with a preschooler. She is in HS now, recalls nothing of world before that day. Several people have added brief recollections at the New York Times' "Where I Was" interactive map. Seth Oberlie posted this memory from Fridley (though the nytimes.com website placed him in Columbia Heights): 11 years old getting ready for school, just old enough to understand the horror. Breifly lived in NYC since, never got to experience the WTC Krista, who was near Innsbruck Nature Center in Fridley, posted this: I was in labor with my 1st baby wondering what kind of …

Editor's Note: Fridley Patch is looking for stories of local people whose lives changed—or who changed their lives—as a result of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. If you or someone you know of were affected by this event, please email chris.steller@patch.com. July and August 2001 were the first months in business for the Islamic Resource Group (IRG), a Fridley-based nonprofit dedicated to educating Minnesotans about Islam and the local Muslim community. To drum up interest in IRG's new speakers bureau, IRG “sent letters to a few schools and churches" recalled Zafar Siddiqui, co-founder and president. Then came 9/11, and requests poured in. Soon IRG's handful of volunteers were giving as many as 25 presentations each week—451 in …

Nine years and 11 months ago today, life in the United States was permanently altered. The September 11 attacks—four coordinated suicide attacks by al-Qaeda on American soil—took nearly 3,000 lives. Did you lose a loved one that day? Did someone you know enlist in the military after the attacks? Maybe you decided to get involved in anti-war efforts? Perhaps you or a family member were among those who donated blood in the days following 9/11? Whatever the connection may be, we want to hear your story. Please take a few moments to send an email to …
