We (parents) have created the hyper competitiveness of amateur sports. Pressure on coaches is about…Read More winning, not too many coaches get fired who win state championships. . The measure that USA Hockey uses to assess the advancement of skill levels of US players is how many reach the NHL. The state legislature is trying to solve a problem even though they cannot define what the problem is.

The writer of this bill, Dean Urdahl, has gone on the record that NO coach has ever lost his job in…Read More Minnesota based only on parent complaints - so why all the fuss and sense of need to do something? What Leah seems to think is the opinion of many parents and she is very wrong. Hasn't everyone read the news reports of coaches who abuse players, who steal from the school district, who are horrible with kids, who choose teams based on which parents will contribute $ to the program? This ILLEGAL behavior routinely happens in practically every school district. This legislation is a shield for bad coaches. Never heard of a good coach, who treats players with respect and who works on skill improvement in positive ways ever being let go. School districts and bad coaches put duct tape over their mouths to avoid the scandal that would result if the community knew what was happening on some high school teams. AD's, principals and school boards already have plenty of policies in place that make it almost impossible to fire employees - why do coaches need more protection than the lunch ladies, custodians, aides, teachers and support staff? The answer is they don't and this whole thing is a ploy to keep the good old boys network of bad coaches in their positions.

My son attends a school with the opposite situation. He attends a private school, competion to…Read More attract new students can get severe. His school has gotten caught up in the desire to be a player in the sports arena in an effort to gain more students. While I admire the desire to become more competitive, when you dont have enough kids to field a football team, being competitve shouldnt be your first priority. The school has recently gone away from teachers being coaches to hiring outside the school. They recently hired a baseball coach that used to play professionally. When he is not coaching highschool, he runs a baseball academy. He cant live off only his coaching salary. His baseball academy is his bread and butter. It costs about $4000 to attend this academy. Half the academy was made up of his own highschool players. The players that paid the money and attended the academy played all the innings during the highschool season. The school was left with a huge black eye and was forced to replace him. The school has a senior class of only 70 kids (boys and girls) to begin with. It seems the math teacher who used to coach the team didnt have a sexy enough resume to attract outside students. The fiasco caused many average kids who couldnt afford the academy to quit. Now the school has even fewer kids playing and is forced to play underclassmen at the varsity level to fill the roster. Making a bad team even worse.

Regardless of whether or not they're the same person, I think if that's the biggest challenge…Read More they've ever faced in life they've pretty much cruised through life. I mean, seriously, your biggest challenge is not understanding that not everyone agrees with your opinions? I would think it's a given that everyone has a right to their own opinions without feeling overwhelmed and challenged by that fact.

Mike B. and myself are not the same person, even though we do seem to think alike on most issues…Read More discussed here. Freedom of speech and thought are good things, and sometimes can be provocative. We should all exercise these rights while we still have them.
BTW, I have not "cruised" through life unscathed. Nobody has.

The question in this article is "What's the biggest challenge you've had to overcome? You're…Read More all jumping in with political comments that really, as you just admitted are NOT the biggest challlenge you have overcome. You just wanted to turn this into a "Let's bash everyone who doesn't share our belief system". Nobody really cares about your political views. Answer the question honestly or stay out of the discussion. Truly, the first person who answered that the biggest obstical he has had to overcome was realizing that everyone has a right to their own opinion and this frustrates him, he's led a VERY sheltered life. If he's frustrated about the politics in this country he could a) move to another country or b) get involved in politics iin a constructive way to bring about the changes he wants or c) shut his yap because nobody really cares that he is tantruming about not getting everyone to step in line behiind him.

Oh, an her dad works for Cargill, IT staff. And stop throwing out bad science regarding the…Read More agricultural industry. Professionals again do NOT arbitrarily throw out these diagnosies. It was not in the food she ate. We tried food elimination/avoidance before the medication. I ate healthy while pregnant and her sister certainly doesn't have ADHD. Instead she has mild dyslexia. I guess my asthma was not genetic either. All these things are genetic, not environmentally caused. Triggers can be environmental.

Can you use a mini trampoline in school? Subject your student to be called in class for acting up?…Read More Schools expect the student to sit and listen. So do the best for your child and give him a helping hand if possible. I am not advocating medication unless possible...it just ticks me off that you have some people that think its just a lazy label handed out by doctors.

MINE doesn't sell her medication. One it's a felony and two she NEEDS to take her medication.…Read More The bottle doesn't leave the house and is locked up. It is very difficult to get a controlled substance like the ADHD medication refilled before the current prescription is scheduled to run out of pills. Too many of the "lost" refill requests can result in an investigation. She lost her pills once (only a nine doses of pills left) and I had to sign a waiver stating that the prescription was truly lost.

Okay, I sort of get the idea of not letting people use two of the four previously existing…Read More connections between Cty 96 and Hwy 10, namely not letting people get off eastbound Cty 96 onto Hwy 10. That'll inconvenience mostly people who have made navigation errors and want to route back to 35W or 694, but MnDOT frequently designs their projects to punish drivers who make mistakes. If I read this correctly then it will still be possible to go from westbound Cty 96 to westbound Hwy 10, which is good. I really don't get why it's important to deny people access to eastbound Cty 96 from westbound Hwy 10, though. That'll mean access to Arden Hills in that area will only be via 35W and Cty 96 or 694 and Lexington. I admit I don't want to make that turn myself very often, but it'll be pretty annoying when I do. Come to think of it, sometimes I do want to go from westbound Cty 96 to eastbound Hwy 10, to get to 694 in a shorter and faster way than via 35W south. I can see both the 694/Lexington and 35W/96 bridges backing up even now...
