They're American Idols Fridley 49'er Days Style

18 singers battle in the karaoke contest.

Call it Fridley's version of American Idol. 

This past weekend, 18 singers battled for the title of 49'er Days Karaoke champion. After all the singing was done, three people won the accolades of the judges. 

The grand champion and first place finisher was Michelle Delgado of Hastings.  Placing second and third, respectively, were Janene Koutek, of Brooklyn Center, and Michael Malloy. Delgado won $300 while Koutek and Malloy won $200 and $100, respectively.

"The Fridley 49'er Days Karaoke Contest was a huge success," said Billy Nelson, owner of The Sundown Karaoke, which hosted the competition. "The crowds under the tent and out on picnic table really enjoyed all the talent." 

Sponsors of the event included: Sam's Club of Fridley, The 49'er Day Committee. Two Stooges and The Shorewood. The contest was held at the Fridley American Legion.
