Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Fridley until 2 a.m. Saturday

The watch announcement came after a special weather statement about a sudden storm centered on New Brighton.

Fridley, Anoka County and parts of central and southern Minnesota are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 2 a.m. Saturday.

The National Weather Service made the announcement at 6:40 p.m. Friday.

That was 17 minutes after the NWS issued a special weather statement about a sudden storm near New Brighton.

A weeklong heat wave is coming to an end Friday evening, according to forecasters, with milder temperatures expected over the weekend.
