Minnesota State Fair Day 8: Seniors Day

Blaine's band marches Thursday; Fridley's marches Friday.

Here's what's happening on Day 8 of the Minnesota State Fair (Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012):

It’s Seniors Day at the fair, and those 65 and over get in for $7. Cattle, sheep and swine leave the fair at 2 p.m., and barns will be closed for the rest of the day. The rides at Mighty Midway and Kidway have a one ticket discount until 1 p.m. More than 1,000 fair-goers are expected to participate in the Senior Stretch & Stroll. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. and the program at 10 a.m. in Carousel Park. Held annually on the second Thursday of the fair, participants receive free t-shirts and fitness equipment. Rascal Flatts plays the grandstand at 7 p.m. Limited seating is available for $43, $53 and $63.

The Blaine High School marching band is one of four featured in today's parade. (Friday is the big day though, when the marching band takes to the fairground streets.)

Editor's note: In an earlier version of this post, I goofed and listed the events and activities for last year's Seniors Day (2011). I apologize for the error and any inconvenience caused — such as to Marc Antony fans surprised when Rascall Flatts took the stage.
