I-694 Work Begins: Westbound On-Ramp from East River Road Closed until October 2013

After short delay, work that began early Monday resumes Monday evening.

Work began Monday on a stretch of I-694 that includes the full length of the interstate through Fridley as well as a local entrance ramp, according to MnDOT:

  • Both sides of I-694 between East River Road and Hwy 100 will be reduced to a single lane from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each day.
  • Both sides of I-694 between East River Road and Hwy 100 will be open to two lanes of traffic from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.
  • The ramp from East River Road to westbound I-694 is closed. It is expected to re-open mid-October
  • Several weekend full closures and detours will be needed for bridge work at I-35W and Hwy 252

The worst might be the first, according to Fox 9

MnDOT spokesman Kent Barnard confirmed the project started as scheduled Sunday night but stopped around 3 a.m. Monday due to an equipment failure.

"We've seen, with these kinds of projects, the first week is going to be the worst part of it until traffic settles out," Barnard told FOX 9.
