Highway 10 Interchange Construction Will Snarl Summertime Traffic

Preliminary work is set to begin this week on a temporary roadway to carry traffic during construction of a new partial interchange at U.S. Highway 10 and Ramsey County Road 96 in Arden Hills, just north of Roseville and east of Fridley.

The temporary roadway will connect County Road 96 to a frontage road north of the roadway on the west side of Highway 10. The roadway will allow access to businesses and homes located between County Road 96 and Interstate 35W.

The interchange, MnDOT admits, will snarl traffic in the northern portion of the Twin Cities as drivers head to the "lakes area" for weekend get-aways, particularly with the other portion of this Highway 10 project. 

Once the access road is completed, the intersection of County Road 96 and Highway 10 will close to build the new interchange. At the same time, Highway 10 will close between I-35W and County Road 96 for resurfacing of the highway between I-35W and I-694.

The section of Highway 10 from County Road 96 south to I-694 has been closed since last year for reconstruction of I-694/Highway 10/Snelling and Hamline avenues. And due to construction activity, the eastbound Highway 10 bridge over I-35W will close and the westbound County Road 10 bridge will be open from northbound I-35W only during the 2013 construction season

Construction of a partial interchange and overpass at the current intersection of Highway 10 and Ramsey County Road 96 will carry County Road 96 traffic beneath Highway 10, and the traffic signal will be removed. The new interchange will not allow access between eastbound County Road 96 and Highway 10 or from westbound County Road 96 to eastbound Hwy 10. In addition, westbound traffic using Highway 10 will not be able to access County Road 96.
