Totino-Grace Boys Hockey Tops Spring Lake Park, Advances to Section Semifinals

The Eagles defeated the Panthers 5-2 Friday night to reach the Section 4A semifinals next Tuesday.

The boys' hockey team began the road to the state tournament with a 5-2 Section 4A quarterfinal victory Friday over the Panthers from Spring Lake Park High School. The Eagles had a bye for the first round while the Panthers defeated the St. Paul Saints to advance to the quarterfinal round.

Totino-Grace got an early goal at the 2:14 mark from senior Xavier Fust to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead at Aldrich Arena. Panthers forward Nick Turbitt answered with two goals—one while his team was shorthanded—to put Spring Lake Park ahead 2-1 at the end of the first period.

The Eagles were able to regroup after the first period. Totino-Grace senior Brian Schlagel scored a power play goal at 4:43 to tie the game at 2.  From that point on the Eagles controlled the game, as they got two more goals in the period from TJ Roo and Andrew McDonald to take a 4-2 lead after two periods.
