Totino-Grace Boys Hockey Takes Second Place in Section

The Totino-Grace hockey team fell to St. Thomas Academy 5-3 in a hard-fought section final Friday.

The majority of the game was evenly played, going back and forth between the two teams. AJ Reid scored first for St. Thomas Academy to put them up 1-0 early in the first period. Derek Lodermeier of Totino-Grace answered with a goal at the 9:39 mark to even the game.

Reid scored again in the second period, this time on the power play, to put the Cadets up 2-1 at the 5:19 mark. However, just like in the first period, Totino-Grace answered with a goal by TJ Roo to send the game into the third period tied 2-2.

In the third period, St. Thomas Academy was able to gain control of the game with two consecutive scores by Zach Schroeder and Alex Johnsonat, at 10:23 and 11:04 respectively. Totino-Grace was able to keep the game interesting as Andrew McDonald scored at the 12:28 mark to bring the Eagles to a one-goal deficit.

A holding penalty on Zach Schroeder of St. Thomas Academy gave Totino-Grace a great opportunity to yet again tie the game. However, the goalkeeping of David Zevnik and the Cadets' penalty-kill helped them hold the lead.

Andrew Commers of St. Thomas Academy sealed the game with a goal at the 15:18 mark to make the final score 5-3.

The final shot count was 34-26 in favor of St. Thomas Academy. Totino-Grace's Nick DeMuth had 29 saves and David Zevnik of St. Thomas Academy had 23.
