State Track Meet Features Fridley, Spring Lake Park and Totino-Grace

Eagles boys team was 6th; Fridley's Niewald ran well.

Athletes from Fridley and Totino-Grace high schools and a combined Spring Lake Park-St. Anthony Village team took part in the state AA track and field meet at Hamline University in St. Paul Friday and Saturday.

Boys Highlights
The Totino-Grace boys team came in sixth, powered by the second-place finish by Steven Dado in the 1600-meter run, with Adam Braun close behind, coming in fourth. In the 4 x 100-meter relay, the Spring Lake Park-St. Anthony Village team of Antonio Haynie, Justin Little, Devon Fleck and Gilbert Tsurwa placed sixth. Marcel Dennis of Fridley High placed 12th in the 400-meter dash.

Girls Highlights
In the girls competition, Fridley's Hannah Niewald came in fourth and in the 300-meter hurdles. Kirsten Whitney of the Spring Lake Park-St. Anthony Village team placed seventh in the event. In the 100-meter dash, Totino-Grace's Rachel Trentor placed seventh.

-Girls

  • Girls team place 40th out of 64 teams with six points, tied with Chanhassen, Monticello, and Willmar. (Hopkins won the meet with 84 points.)
  • Junior Hannah Niewald placed 11th in the 100-meter hurdles, with 16.14 in the preliminaries. (Jessica January, a Richfield sophomore, won the event with 14.78 in the finals.)
  • Niewald placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, with 46.4 in the preliminaries and 45.66 in the finals, for six team points. (Mariah Witt, a Hopkins junior, won the event with 44.34 in the finals.)
  • Junior Rachel Duehn placed 18th in the triple jump with 33-08.75. (Piper Jensen, a Minnetonka freshman, won the event with 37-09.00.)

Spring Lake Park High School/St. Anthony Village High School-Girls

  • Girls team place 55th out of 64 teams with three points, tied with Grand Rapids, Cambridge-Isanti and Eagan.
  • Sophomore Kirsten Whitney placed seventh in the 300-meter hurdles, with 47.16 in the preliminaries and 45.97 in the finals, for three team points. (Witt of Hopkins won the event with 44.34 in the finals.)

-Girls

  • Girls team placed 49th out of 64 teams with four points, tied with Burnsville, Hutchinson Tigers, Orono, Northfield/ARTech and Tartan.
  • Junior Rachel Trentor placed seventh in the 100-meter dash with 12.85 in the preliminaries and 12.68 in the finals, for three team points. (Sashanavian Davis, a Park Center senior, won the event with 12.31 in the finals.)
  • Trentor placed 11th in the 200-meter dash, with 26.29 in the preliminaries. (Davis of Park Center won the event with 24.73 in the finals.)
  • Sophomore Taylor McDonald placed 16th in the 800-meter run, with 2:20.01 in the preliminaries. (Haylie Zenner, a Fergus Falls  junior, won the event with 2:12.56 in the finals.)
  • The Eagles' 4 x 400-meter relay team of Elizabeth Wanner, Anne Louiselle, Danan Winslow and Taylor McDonald placed 10th with 4:02.14 in the preliminaries. (Hopkins won the event with a state-record 3:51.26 in the finals)
  • Junior Ashley Dahly placed ninth in the high jump with 5-02.00, for one team point. (Tatyana Pashibin, a Minneapolis Southwest junior, won the event with 5-07.00.)

-Boys

  • Senior Marcel Dennis placed 12th in the 400-meter dash with 51.29 in the preliminaries. (Austin Salargo, a Hopkins junior, won the event with 48.56 in the finals.)

Spring Lake Park High School/St. Anthony Village High School-Boys

  • Boys team placed 39th out of 60 teams with six points, tied with Duluth Central, Rochester Mayo and Richfield. (Stillwater Area High School won the meet with 47 points.)
  • Senior Antonio Haynie placed eighth in the 300-meter hurdles, with 39.77 in the preliminaries and 39.67 in the finals, for three team points. (Rilwan "RJ" Alowonle, a Park High School junior, won the event with 37.32 in the finals.)
  • Senior Jesse Reemtsma placed 13th in the discus throw with 147-02. (Luke Johnson, a Red Wing senior, won the event with 175-02.)
  • The SLPSA 4 x 100-meter relay team of Haynie, Justin Little, Devon Fleck and Gilbert Tsurwa placed sixth with 43.60 in the finals for four team points. (Apple Valley won the event with 42.56 in the finals.)
  • Haynie placed eighth in the 300-meter hurdles with 39.77 in the preliminaries and 39.67 in the finals, for two team points. (Alowonle of Park High School won the event with 37.32 in the finals.)

-Boys

  • Boys team placed sixth out of 60 teams with 36 points.
  • The Eagles' 4 x 200-meter relay team of Jared Schmit, Jacob Schauer, Andrew Leonard and Alex Wagner placed fifth with 1:29.76 in the preliminaries and 1:28.81 in the finals, for five team points. (White Bear Lake Area won the event with 1:28.29 in the finals.)
  • Senior Steven Dado placed second in the 1600-meter run with 4:17.57 for 10 team points. Senior Adam Braun placed fourth with 4:19.98 for six team points. (Christian Skaret, a Minnetonka senior, won the event with 4:16.72.)
  • Junior Alex Wagner placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with 39.25 in the preliminaries and 39.03 in the finals, for six team points. (Alowonle of Park High School won the event with 37.32 in the finals.)
  • Braun placed fifth with 9:19.20 for five team points and Dado placed sixth with 9:19.46 for four team points in the 3200-meter run. (Glen Ellingson, a Moorhead junior, won the event with 9:16.84.)
