Football Recap: Fridley, Totino-Grace Advance

The Tigers and Eagles each advanced to Saturday's section semifinals while Columbia Heights lost.

The football team topped Mound Westonka by a 34-14 margin on Tuesday in the Section 6AAAA quarterfinal in Fridley.

The Tigers advanced to face in the section semifinals on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Panther Stadium.

Mike Murray scored two one-yard rushing touchdowns in the game. Nick Rathke connected with Matt Duehn and Murray for two passing scores, and Kenben Parker scored on a seven-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to lift the Tigers to victory.

With the loss, Mound Westonka fell to 1-8 on the season. Fridley improved to a 2-7 record on the year.

Totino-Grace tops North, 30-7

The football team defeated by a 30-7 margin on Tuesday in the Section 2AAAAA quarterfinal in Fridley.

The Eagles advanced to face White Bear Lake in the section semifinals on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Totino-Grace opened up the game with 30 unanswered points before the Polars got on the scoreboard in the fourth. Bob McDaniel ran for a score and threw for one to Jeff Daughtery, Mason Kaliszewski had a one-yard score and Andrew McDonald scored from eight yards out. Jon Weiler also had a field goal on the night.

With the win, Totino-Grace improved to 8-1 on the season. North ends the year with a 2-7 record.

Columbia Heights Falls to Providence Academy
The Hylanders ended their season on the road at , where they lost by a score of 49-28 in the Section 5AAA quarterfinal.

After falling behind 49-0, Columbia Heights came back with two touchdowns in each of the last two quarters. Nick Liebelt connected with Michael Kantor and Matt Kourouma in the third quarter then scored himself on a four-yard run in the fourth, while Josh Thorn scored on a three-yard run in the fourth.
