PHOTO: Fridley High Teachers Don Red to Support Striking Chicago Teachers

Ripples in Fridley from Chicago's first teachers strike in 25 years.

Red was the color for teachers to wear Monday to show support for teachers who went on strike the night before in Chicago—415 miles away.

Posing for a photo Monday were FHS teachers Callie Bush (science), Mike Wilmes (math), Chandra Hanke (German) and Alisa Lowry (health and physical education).

"Fridley teachers are showing solidarity by wearing red today," tweeted Bush.

"Like many Chicago parents, I support how [Chicago Teachers Union Local 1] is working not just for [teachers], but students too," tweeted Julie Blaha, president of Education Minnesota teachers' union in the Anoka-Hennepin school district, which includes part of northwestern Fridley.
