Weekend Planner: Get Out of Dodge

Fridley's weekend entertainment guide to talent, Gleeks, home improvement and scavenging.

It’s Thursday, and you are itching to get out of Dodge. Fridley Patch is right there with you. Here are five suggestions for the weekend.


Where/When: Minneapolis Convention Center (1301 Second Ave. S., Minneapolis) on March 3–4 from 10 a.m.–9 p.m.; March 5 from 9 a.m.–10 p.m.; March 6 from 9 a.m.–6 p.m.
Why Go: One more chance to get fresh home improvement ideas before spring. And if that doesn’t excite you, perhaps the celebrity experts will.
Price: Adult $13 ($10 if purchased on-line); child (6–12), $4; child (5 and under), free


Where/When: Spring Lake Park High School (1100 81st Ave. NE) on Friday, March 4 at 7 p.m.
Why Go: Check out the local high school student talent and perhaps swing by early for the spaghetti dinner.
Price: General admission, $6; senior citizens, $4


Where/When: on Saturday, Mar. 5; Doors open at 7:30 a.m.
Why Go: Make it a Glee-ful day with show choirs from 15 schools representing 5 states.
Price: All-day tickets: adult, $12; student, $8. Day-only or finals-only tickets: adult, $8; student, $5.


Where/When: See Fridley Patch’s by Dave McCoy.
Why Go: Get Out-side for a hiking or snowshoe adventure and enjoy a real-life adult scavenger hunt.


Where/When: Spring Lake Park High School (1100 81st Ave. NE) on Saturday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m.
Why Go: Be entertained by a wind ensemble, symphonic band and swing choir from high schools in Spring Lake Park and Eldora, IA.
Price: Adults, $3; students and senior citizens, $1. Pay at the door.
