Watch Anoka-Hennepin District School Board Meeting

The board is scheduled to have its first reading of a new policies on harassment and handling controversial topics in the classroom.

Board member Scott Wenzel, who represents the northwest corner of Fridley that is in the Anoka-Hennepin district, said on WCCO-AM radio Monday that he does not support the new policy—or the district's current or former policies concerning discussion of homosexuality in the classroom.

"Our teachers are professionals," he said, who can handle all sorts of classroom topics.

The board is set to vote on the new policy early next year.
