Eight Hoping To Find Place On Area School Boards

While eight area residents have filed for the seven available seats, candidates can continue to file until 5 p.m., Aug. 16.

Eight area residents have already announced their intention to run for seven Fridley-area school board seats.  

Three seats each in the Fridley and Spring Lake Park school districts are up for election in November. One of the three seats up for election on the Anoka-Hennepin school board is for District 5, which includes the northwestern corner of Fridley.

Those still hoping to file affidavits of candidacy can do so until 5 p.m., Aug. 16, 2011.

According to the Minnesota Secretary of State website, candidates for the four-year terms must be eligible voters, aged 21 years or older, and residents of the school district or election district for 30 days before the general election.

Candidates also must pay a $2 filing fee and cannot have filed for election to any other office at the time of submission.
