Two Fridley-area elementary school teachers are candidates for 2013 Minnesota Teacher of the Year, the teachers union Education Minnesota announced Thursday:
- Stan Mraz teaches science at North Park Elementary School, which is located in Fridley and is part of the Columbia Heights Schools (District 13). The district honored Mraz as Teacher of the Year last year, the Columbia Heights iLander reported.
- John Keran teaches fourth grade at Adams Elementary School, which is located just north of Fridley in Coon Rapids and is part of the Anoka-Hennepin Schools (District 11). The school draws students from Fridley's northwest corner. Keran was one of District 11's 2010 Teacher Outstanding Performance (TOP) Award Winners.
Education Minnesota nominated 135 teachers from across the state for 2013 Teacher of the year, the organization said in a press release. A 25-member panel of community leaders will name semifinalists and finalists in coming weeks, with the Teacher of the Year announced at a ceremony May 5 in Brooklyn Park.
