Godzilla (2014) – Review

I can not say I've seen all the Godzilla movies, but I've seen some of them and most of them liked it a lot. However, Godzilla (1998) left a bad taste in the mouth of everyone, including myself. So it's no wonder that Hollywood has waited so long to take the franchise. Another technique has improved by leaps and bounds since the late 90's and it was time to give a chance to Godzilla. If movies like Clover field and the Pacific can be as good as they did, especially Godzilla, using today's technology, it could prove once king of the monsters. However, with the bad taste of Godzilla '98 still in my mouth, reluctantly, I went to the theater.

I suggest that if you are going to see this movie, you do it in a crowded theater full of rabid fans of Godzilla. Here's how I survived and made the movie so much fun and enjoyable. So much so, in fact, that only in the credits and I had to think about what I just saw that I realized it was not as good as I thought it was when you look at it. But I still want to give it here, it was a very funny movie and very entertaining to watch, it's just full of problems.

The film opens with scientist Joe Brody (Bryan Cranston), who lives in Japan with his wife (Juliete Binoche) and her son. Joe is responsible for the safety of a nuclear power plant. Things quickly escalate and before you know that his wife is dead. This is not a big spoiler as it happens in the first few minutes of the film and is the driving force in what comes next.
Reduced to fifteen years later and Joe is crazy trying to figure out what happened to his wife, is still in Japan. His son, Ford (Aaron Talyor - Johnson) is a soldier who is now married with a son of his own, his wife, played by Elizabeth Olsen; lives in San Francisco. I will not tell you his name, because even after seeing that he does not remember the effort. That's how important it is for the story. This is a shame because she is a great actress and her talents are totally wasted here.

Ford needs to go when his father was arrested in Japan. Joe convinces Ford to help you search for something you stumbled on a secret military base where we meet Dr. Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) him. Things quickly escalate here and a giant flying monster escapes. Now Ford has to go back to San Francisco, this is your movie. Despite what the trailers show off Cranston, is not that important to the story as you hoped it would be.

While Ford is looking to return to San Francisco to get another test as the first shows in Las Vegas and the Pacific, get tips that Godzilla is on the right track. Dr. Serizawa goes out of his way to point out to those around him that Godzilla is getting back to nature or something. Balance Back In essence, the police monsters and these two creatures apparently has broken any laws. Since Godzilla is on a rampage to bring these creatures. Down Serizawa also emphasizes and exclaims "Gojira", in a clear homage to the rest of the franchise.

There are hints and glimpses of great battle monsters in Honolulu, but the public sees very little of this and that is a big disappointment. Finally, in the third act of the film all samples arrive in San Francisco and Ford come to San Francisco and wife to Ford and" caught in San Francisco since Ford silent about his wait for me when he knew three giant monsters were conducted in his direction. This is one of the many holes in the engaging storyline of the movie. I can not be silent most of the others because they are huge spoilers, but I assure you, there is.

Therefore, all the samples together in the end and it's time for the big fight monsters. The reason you’re watching a Godzilla movie. It's time for Godzilla monster kicks some serious ass and destroys several national monuments and other buildings, while on. This is what we paid to see. After all, the movie called Godzilla, not Ford Brody and the stupid things he does. But that's exactly what we get. Godzilla fighting these gigantic monsters and it's all background set dressing for the adventure of these military boys and what they must do to save the city. Some people can not be bothered with it, I was super annoyed by it. I want giant monster fights, no kids running around with a glimpse of the gigantic monster battles background of the view. In all this there is also the occasional cut to wife Ford huddled and hiding and screaming as dust and debris that fell around her just to remind them that they are there and can die at any time for us.
Do not get me wrong, there are some good moments in the third act. There are times when you scream and shout and cheer for Godzilla if it was your favorite local sports teams. Not only is not enough. And this is the biggest mistake of the film.

I do not have the numbers for me, but I almost feel like Hannibal Lecter had more screen time in The Silence of the Lambs that Godzilla does in his films. And if this was not a disappointment, I do not know what it is.
