Time to File as Candidate for Fridley, SLP, A-H School Boards

The filing period is this month.

People who want to run for seven Fridley-area school-board seats have two weeks to file as candidates, starting on Tuesday for four of the seats and on Aug. 9 for the other three.

Three seats each in the Fridley and Spring Lake Park school boards are up for election in November. One of the three seats up for election on the Anoka-Hennepin school board is for District 5, which includes the northwestern corner of Fridley.

The official filing period according the Minnesota Secretary of State's office is Aug. 2-16, 2011. Candidates for the four-year terms must be eligible voters, aged 21 years or older, and residents of the school district or election district for 30 days before the general election—and they must not have filed for election to any other office. They must file affidavits of candidacy, and pay a $2 filing fee, by 5 p.m. on the last day of the filing period.

  • Anoka-Hennepin: File for election in district one, two or five at Anoka County Elections, 325 E. Main St., Room W130, Anoka.
  • Spring Lake Park: File for election to one of three school board seats at the superintendent's office, Spring Lake Park District Services Center 1415 81st Ave. NE, Spring Lake Park.
  • Fridley: File for election to one of three school board seats at the school district office, 6000 W. Moore Lake Dr., Fridley.
